The Village Band of Chapel Hill / Carrboro, North Carolina is a non-profit community concert band. We are dedicated to providing our members an opportunity for life-long musical expression, promoting music in the lives of all we meet and providing cultural enrichment in our community.

The Village Band was organized in 1974 by Dan Margoni, a music instructor in the Chapel Hill/Carrboro school system, as a place where the parents of his students could play their instruments. No auditions were required and everyone with an interest in music was welcome. The experience level of the membership ranged from near professional to people who hadn't played since high school, but wanted to play once again.

The Band has continued this tradition, welcoming to its rehearsals amateur musicians from all over the Triangle. Skill levels are as varied now as they were in the early days. Some members started playing recently after a 20+ year hiatus while others have enjoyed long and distinguished careers as amateur performers.

The band plays 7-9 concerts a year, performing a broad repertoire -- Sousa and concert marches, show tunes, classical transcriptions, traditional band music, and contemporary compositions. Our season runs from the first Monday after Labor Day weekend through the 4th of July. See our schedule for upcoming performances.

The Village Band is a non-profit 501(c) organization. Your tax deductible donation is appreciated! To contribute, please contact Becky Smith at bsmithb@nc.rr.com.

Any interested musician is welcome to attend rehearsals Monday nights 7:30 to 9:00 at East Chapel Hill High School.

Thank you for visiting. We appreciate your support!
