ALMORÒ III FRANCESCO PISANI (1759-1836) PODESTÀAND VICE CAPTAIN OF VERONA
Almorò III Pisani, called Francesco, was born on the 9th of August 1759 in Venice; his parents were Almorò III called Luigi and Paolina Gambara. Together with his brother Alvise he inherited an immense fortune, including a palazzo at Santo Stefano and a villa at Stra. On the 28th of October 1781 he married Pisana Mocenigo. During this first marriage, Almorò I called Luigi (in 1785) and Almorò II called Giovanni Girolamo (in 1787) were born; he was married again on the 11th of January 1809, to Giuditta Mangilli; from this second union, Paolina (in 1812),Almorò III called Giovanni Giuseppe (in 1815) and Caterina Maria (in 1819) were born. After being appointed Savio agli Ordini (1787), on the 18th of April 1790 he was appointed Podestà of Verona. Under his mandate there were important urban changes (especially the route to Vicenza). The medal depicted seems to refer to the help Pisani gave to the population during the great drought of 1791, when the maize crop was lost.He was appointed Ambassador to Spain on the 3rd of August 1793. The fall of the Republic happened when he was in Madrid, but he accepted the arrival of Napoleon without any problems. His, and his brothers, real problem was the extravagance which forced them to sell the villa of Stra, and then, their large coin collection, the library and paintings. Only the famous collection ofVenetian medals was kept; it was sold in block only thirty years ago to an anonymous buyer who then dispersed it. In his final years, Almorò III Francesco moved to Padua, where he died in 1836. |
