Migration to North Africa

This section of the site is dedicated to the genealogy of those Pisani families that migrated to North Africa. From Tunisia to Egypt the Pisani name permeated through the European neighbourhoods of the past few centurys and in some cases still exists there today.

The attachments below contain data that may help trace your Pisani ancestor if they settled in North Africa. If you have some information that isn't already held here then I would love to hear it, and share with other Pisani genealogists.

There are extensive and freely available records for British citizens born, married or dying, both in the UK and abroad. These stretch back to the early 19th century and are a valuable source of data for any research, genealogical or otherwise. Of course, the Maltese were British by association during the colonisation of Malta and so those Maltese so inclined could register their births etc. with the British consul in any of the British colonial countries they found themselves in.

In the "British Overseas Records" sub section I have collated the occurrences of the Pisani name for Births, Marriages and Deaths where they appear for North African cities (I have also kept Constantinople in this list as there were strong links between the Pisani families there and in North Africa). It should be considered however that certain limitations exist, in that not all Maltese would have made the effort to register with the Consul, and thus do not appear in these lists. Furthermore, other lists exist regarding births, marriages and deaths registered through the Armed Forces chaplains and these do not appear here either. Get in touch if you would like to know how to access these records.

Also, most of the records (up to a certain date) are handwritten and often in poor condition. In these cases it is often difficult to read some of the information. I stand to be corrected should you feel that I have misread or misinterpreted any of the data for these records.
