To obtain birth, marriage or death certificates as part of your research there are two options. Pre-1863 such artefacts only exist within the parishes, and therefore you need to contact them directly and hope that they are able to search their archives for the information you need. Post-1863 all such records were centralised and kept in government archives, and are therefore searchable and obtainable directly from the government.

 

This is easier than you think as they have an online presence, giving you the option to order and pay for certificates and have them sent to you anywhere in the world.
