Tribunals and Public Authorities

In addition to the Judiciary, there are other tribunals and public authorities which exercise quasi-judicial functions. Strictly speaking, these institutions do not fall under the branch of Government that we call the Judiciary. But parties dissatisfied with the decisions of these institutions may either appeal to the Supreme Court or seek Judicial Review.

Tribunals and Public Authorities: -

Employment disputes are handled by 1 of the 3 institutions dealing with employment disputes. These are the Public Services Appeals Board for public service employment disputes, the Employment Tribunal via the Employment Department for the private sector employment disputes and then the Seychelles International Business Authority (SIBA) in its capacity as the ITZ Employment Council, which handles ITZ employment disputes.

The Family Tribunal deals with various domestic disputes and are also empowered to determine child custody issues and child maintenance.
