The Department of Legal Affairs

The Department of Legal Affairs is the Government's legal arm, comprising of the Attorney General's Chambers, the Drafting Division, the office of the Registrar General and the office of the Law Review Commissioner.

The Attorney General's Chamber comprises of State Counsels and Public Prosecutors. The State Counsels are fully qualified lawyers and have full rights of audience before all the courts of Seychelles. They conduct all types of work on behalf of the Government of Seychelles. There are also Assistant State Counsels, they possess qualifying law degrees but are yet to complete the bar (hence unlike State Counsels, their time at the Attorney General's Office whilst Assistant State Counsels do not count for pupilage). The Public Prosecutors are generally limited to conducting criminal prosecutions in the Magistrates' Courts. The incumbent Attorney General is Mr Ronny Govinden. The Drafting Division is in charge of the drafting of legislation and the Official Gazatte. The Drafting Division is manned by the State Counsels and is located at the Attorney General's Chambers at National House, Victoria.
 
The Registrar General is in charge of all matters requiring registration. The Registrar General is, inter alia, the Companies Registrar and the Lands Registrar. The incumbent Registrar General is Mrs Lucienne Charlette. The offices of the Registrar General are located at Kingsgate House, Victoria.

In September 2009, the post of Law Review Commissioner was re-installed to review and collate the laws of Seychelles. The incumbent Law Review Commissioner is Mr Ranjan Perera, the former Chief Justice.
