People with visual-motor processing problems (where the brain sends a message but the hands don't cooperate) face special challenges when reading and writing.


Activity (Grades 3-6):
  • Place writing paper inside mirror box
  • Instruct students to write their names while looking at print in mirror so that writing appears correctly in the mirror.  (For an extra challenge, instruct students to write the number "5".)
  • Discuss challenges
Materials:
  • Mirror box (see attachment for how to build a mirror box)
  • Writing paper
  • Short (golf) pencil
Expected time to complete:
  • Five minutes, plus ten minutes discussion with group
