Maine State Samboree
The Maine State Samboree was held at the Fryeburg Fairgrounds in Fryeburg, Maine, the weekend of September 10-13, 2009. The theme of the Samboree was “The Good Old Days” Representing the Saco River Ramblers were President Judith and Bill Botsford; Vice President Roger and Carol Roberts; Chaplain, Janice Murray and Dave Bonneau; Maine State Director, Diane and Martin Qualey; Web Master, Maria and John Croteau; John and Jean Baker; Dick and Maxine Bineau; Dan and Elinor Quint; Dick and Linda Spoffard; Kerry and Anna Kulakowski and Rita Carignan .
Saco River Ramblers took 1st prize in the Parade for a 3rd year in a row. Our era was “The 50’s”. The ladies wore poodle skirts and saddle shoes while the men wore dungarees and t-shirts. The “Fonz” was played by John Croteau and Carol Roberts was our Cheerleader. Bill Botsford and John Baker carried the banner while Dick Spoffard carried the 50’s poster. The rest of the group danced the “Stroll” down the parade route. John counted us down with the steps trying to keep us in some kind of order. Your president is not very coordinated when it comes to something like that, but we gave it our best shot.
The Maine Samboree had some great entertainment….Friday afternoon we listened to the Bavarian band and right from there we saw “Flame’in Raymond” where he had the audience up and dancing and doing all sorts of fun things. Friday evening everyone enjoyed “The Price Was Right”. SRR had two contestants and they were Janice Murray and Linda Spoffard and NH State Secretary, Judy Coderre was also a contestant in the game. Saturday afternoon we listened to music with Debbie Moran. In the evening there was square dancing and then line dancing. Saturday morning we had our chapter meeting at the Botsford’s site.

A note from your President
Judith E. Botsford
The Botsfords have been very busy with Good Sam since the camping season began back in May. What a wonderful summer we have had! We have camped with the Saco River Ramblers and the Pinecrafters of Maine and even sandwiched a little “our own” time camping.
We have done 4 Samborees and worked 3 of them. Being on staff is a big job, but a lot of fun. In New Hampshire I led the Sunday Hymn Sing and helped out with any position that was needed at the time. In Maine I have been State Chaplain, thus I assisted at the Farmington Spring Samboree. At the State Samboree in Fryeburg, I spent the week there and did clerical work, worked at the registration desk, and other odd jobs to prepare for the weekend. Friday morning I led the prayer at the special ceremony for
the 9-11 Celebration. Thus, I have been “in training” to help learn how to co-ordinate the New Hampshire Samboree for 2010.
Bill and I are very excited about our upcoming endeavor as state Directors for this wonderful state of NewHampshire. Please watch for details in the near future. We do not, in any way, intend to give up any of our Saco River Rambler activities. We love you all and appreciate all the support you have given us this past 5 years. Yes, in February 2010 our chapter will be five years old.
FOOD PANTRY
The food bank for the month of September will be given to the Brownfield, Maine Food Pantry which covers Lovell as well. The food box was filled at the Maine Samboree and will be delivered by Roger and Carol Roberts. A check for $30.00 was also included.
It was voted to give our next month’s donation to the Jackson-Bartlett-Glen Food bank as our hosts are at that location. Please remember to bring non perishables to the campout for the box. |
