New Hampshire State Samboree
The New Hampshire Samboree was held at the Fairgrounds in North Haverhill, New Hampshire August 13-16, 2009. Representing the Saco River Ramblers were: President, Judith and Bill Botsford; Secretary, Betsy and Jim Bradt; Chaplain, Janice Murray and Dave Bonneau; John and Jean Baker, Martin & Diane Qualey (Maine State Directors), Dick and Linda Spofford; Dennis and Linda Laperle and Linda’s daughter, Jamie Heritage of Hopatcong, New Jersey. The Botsfords and Bonneaus went directly to the NH Samboree from the Vermont Samboree and spent the week there helping the state staff.
The Saco River Ramblers again were winners……our chapter won the third place ribbon in the “Pots and Pan” parade with great costumes. Jim Bradt won a ribbon for the skillet toss; Janice Murray and Jean Baker won ribbons for first place teams on the Bean Bag Baseball. Judy Botsford was on a 2nd place beanbag baseball team. Thanks for all your enthusiasm and joining in the activities,
members! Our chapter raffles were very successful with a collapsible waste container filled full of groceries and household items and a beautiful camping quilt which was handmade by Betsy Bradt. Thanks, Betsy!
The entertainment Friday night was a gentleman singing and then on Saturday evening the entertainment was “Jose Duddy” from Falmouth Maine who had everyone out of the dance floor most of the evening.
Sunday morning Judy led the group in a hymn sing accompanied by Nancy Killmer, Good Sam Ambassador. Linda Laperle and Judy sand a duet entitled “Prayer” and Judy did a solo, “The Lord’s Prayer”. The worship in song was ended by everyone in a big circle singing “Let Their Be Peace of Earth”.
The closing ceremony was exciting as this was the last Samboree for State Directors Dick and Judy Coderre and their staff. We thank them for leading us these past four years in the state of New Hampshire. They have worked so hard to build up the Samboree and we had 189 rigs which exceeded the attendance of the 2008 Samboree.
Happy Birthday

Our hosts prepared a breakfast of scrambled eggs, bacon and sausages Saturday morning and French Toast with sausages and bacon on Sunday morning. Saturday evening there was a pot luck supper with lots of goodies.
The theme of the weekend was Birthday, thus we celebrated everyone’s Birthday Saturday night with cake and Ice cream and had a Yankee Swap of Birthday gifts for everyone.
Friday it rained most of the day, but that didn’t stop the cribbage or Joker games. Saturday blessed us with perfect weather this it was a beach day with
lots of swimming. A group of Jim and Betsy Bradt, Phyllis Barnes, Bill and Judy Botsford all went kayaking on the lake.
Our chapter food donations were made and the food pantry to receive this month’s donations is the St. Thomas More Food Pantry in Newmarket, NH. The presentation was made by Greg and Kathy Thayer.
Thanks go to our hosts for planning and leading us in a full-filled relaxing weekend. It was decided to re-book the safari field and pavilion for the same weekend for 2010 and hope that more of our members will plan to attend.
Green Meadow Fall Camping Weekend
The 2009 Saco River Rambler Camping Season will wind down with a “Bang”!!! Come and be part of our “Thanksgiving Celebration” . This will be held the weekend of October 15th to the 18th and the hosts are Reggie and Rose Illsley and Bill and Judy Botsford.
The campground closes on Columbus Day; however we are very fortunate to be able to camp there the following weekend. Campers will have electricity; however the water will be turned off (in case of freezing temps) thus you need to have water onboard your rig. (Reggie says that you can fill up Your water once you arrive if you wish) Our dining canopy will be closed in and heated for your comfort.
The weekend promises to be lots of fun. There will be a prize for the best Thanksgiving decorated rig, so be thinking of ideas between now and then. Saturday afternoon we will have a big thanksgiving dinner including turkey and all the fixings.
Please send your reservations toThe Botsfords (PO Box 215 Jackson, NH 03846) as soon as possible so the hosts can plan the size of turkey(s) etc. The form is on the web site.
Maine State Samboree
Have you sent in your reservations for the Maine State Samboree???? It is to be held at the Fryeburg Fairgrounds the weekend of September 10th to the 13th, 2009.
We will again be parking with the Pinecrafter’s Chapter of Buxton, Maine. Please let your president know if you plan to attend so she can reserve enough spaces for the rigs.
Don’t forget that the theme is “The Good Old Days” thus we are going to celebrate the 50’s. We will be marching in the parade on Saturday, so bring your
poodle skirts and guys, bring your dungarees and t-shirts. It promises to be lots of fun for everyone.
They are promising some new and exciting activities. If you play and instrument, please bring it as they plan on having a “jam fest”. For details, check out the Maine Good Sam web page at: Martin and Diane have a super web page so enjoy!
A Note from your President Judith E. Botsford
Since our last newsletter Bill and I have been very busy with Good Sam. First the weekend at Mi-Te-Jo and then the Vermont Samboree and now the New Hampshire State Samboree. We have been home one weekend since the beginning of May, thus we will take a couple of weeks off and get caught up and home.
Great things are happening for the Botsfords and we hope that you will support us in our endeavor. At the NH Samboree I spent a lot of time with Director, Dick and Judy Coderre, Tom and Nancy Killmer and also the Sambassadors from California learning about the “inside happenings” of being a state director.
After much thought and discussion we have decided to do something that I feel will be a big challenge for Bill and I, but I just know we can do it, and I am very excited. At this point we wait the appointment from California at the
Good Sam Headquarters, but in the meantime we are coming up with a lot of ideas as well as we will soon be putting a staff together. So please pray for us that we have made the right decision. Thank you, Judy
Saco River Ramblers Business Meeting
The next business meeting of our chapter will be held at the Maine Samboree the weekend of Sept 10th to the 13th. The time will be determined after we find out the schedule of events and where it will fit in. We have important business to conduct, so please plan to attend. If you live close by, we will give you a phone call as to the time of the meeting and perhaps you could come by the Samboree for a short time.
“Sunshine” Dan & Ellie Quint
An e-mail has been received from Ellie Quint, and we are so pleased to hear that Dan is doing much better. He is preparing for a new difibulator and they hope that will take care of the heart problem. Due to his age and diabetes, artery surgery will not be done.
They would like to thank everyone for sending all the lovely greeting cards. |
