At some point since I canvassed for George McGovern back in the XXth century, I realized that I was not so much a 'liberal' as a 'libertarian'. So since I think freedom is good, I'm a proud member of both the ACLU and the NRA, and I think everybody else should be too. I enjoy International Defensive Pistol Association-style shooting, which is (from their web site): "... the use of practical equipment including full charge service ammunition to solve simulated "real world" self-defense scenarios." That is, you draw from the holster against targets and obstacles that are different every time, and your score is, basically, how many seconds it takes. It's more fun than some people think should be allowed. I might like IPSC shooting, too... if I had way more money. Anyway I have a couple items that might be of interest to folks:
Also, here's some links about a place to get what I've been told is some pretty good gun training. Their links are here, quite frankly, because they've paid me off with a certificate for a free four-day class. I've heard enough good stuff about Front Sight that I really wanna go. Check it out:

This is my first gun, a Charles Daly Field Pistol, which is a Filipino knockoff of the legendary M1911 Colt .45 Government Model. ![]() My second gun — same thing only better. I succumbed to the peer pressure of gunsmiths and fellow shooters and bought a much more nicely made, American-built Kimber Custom II. It did not cause me to shoot any better, but it broke less. Chapter II: The Revolver Eraaka the Church of Elmer Keith Then one day I saw a Ruger SP101 .357 Magnum revolver. It was shiny, so I traded in the Kimber in for it. The only deficiency of this gun is, it's only a five-shooter, so there's no place for it in IDPA except the Back Up Gun side matches. So for IDPA I needed a six-shooter. I sold the Daly and got the SP101's big brother, the Ruger GP100, thus completing my conversion to the Church of the Revolver. Here's the current family portrait: ![]() |
