This is to inform you, as a participant, of the aims and approach of the research programme. The research is being carried out at UWE.

What is the purpose of this research?

The purpose of the research is to assess your thoughts, feelings and behaviours and ask you a few questions about your gaming habits.

How will the research be done and what will I have to do?

If you decide to take part in the study, you will be expected to answer a web-based questionnaire in full. There are three parts to this questionnaire the first part will ask you general demographic questions. You will also be asked about the type of games you most often play and your experiences whilst playing them, as well as some questions about your general thoughts feelings and behaviours, Completing the questionnaires should take no more than 20 minutes. There are no right or wrong answers. Although it is unlikely that you will experience negative feelings whilst completing the questionnaires, if you any issues do arise, please contact the researchers (details below)

Who can take part?

Anyone that plays more than 5 hours of video/computer games per week.

Do I have to take part?

It is up to you to decide whether or not to take part. If you do decide to take part you will be able asked to give your consent. If you decide to take part you are still free to withdraw at any time and without giving a reason by shutting the browser window. A decision to withdraw at any time, or a decision not to take part, will not affect the way you are treated.

Is the information I provide confidential and held securely?

All data provided will be anonymous. You will not be asked for your name or any identifying details. All the data you provide will be stored in password-protected computer files under an anonymous identifier and used on a confidential basis.

What will be done with the results?

The results will form the basis of my third year undergraduate psychology dissertation. However, no individual identifying features will be included, only aggregated results.  The computer data and the resulting analysed data will be held for as long as it retains research value.

The anonymised data may be made available for further appropriately approved research at the University. No data will be published in a way that could identify individual participants.

What if I have any further questions?
