Rules

It is important to keep in mind that this IS NOT A RACE.  Therefore, no “racing rules” apply.  However, courtesy sailing rules are in full effect.  Since this IS NOT A RACE, there is no official start time.  However, there is an ending time of 5:00 PM to make sure everyone is back in port safely.

This sail is designed to be a friendly day of sailing, not a blood thirsty cock fight.

This year's theme is "Pirates."  I thought for about 2 seconds before I came up with that.  You may want to bring your water pistols in case battles ensue on the high seas.

Fleets-Divisions-Categories-Classes

ANY sailboat may participate in the sail.  Everyone participates in the same fleet.  However, this sail is an endurance sail for small sailboats, meaning it is much more strenuous to complete this course in a small sailboat.  A small sailboat will be defined as any boat that is no longer than 18 feet.  Small sailboats will be in the “Endurance Division.”  If larger sailboats participate, they will be in the “Spectator Division.”  The "Endurance Division will be classified into the following Catagories: Catamaran and Monohull.  There is only one Catamaran Class.  Monohull boats will be in three classes: Class A, Class B, and Class C.  Monohull classes are defined by length as follows:

Class A-  Any boat with a length of 17' - 18'

Class B-  Any boat with a length of 15' - 16' 11"

Class C-  Any boat that is less than 15'

We are in no way affiliated with any professional sailing organization, or any other organization.

Course

The Point Endurance Sail is designed to accommodate small sailboats by keeping boats relatively close to shore.  The sail is approximately 13.8 miles, beginning and ending at the Pier Street Boat Launch.

Sailors leave the Pier Street Launch and head Southwest toward the Point Clear Platform, located 1.1 miles Southwest of the tip of Point Clear.  Vessels should round the Point Clear Platform on the East side and begin their return on the West side of the platform.

Sailors should then head Northwest towards Steadman’s Landing located off the coast of Montrose.  Vessels should round an orange tetrahedron the West side and begin their return on the East side.  The tetrahedron is located 0.25 miles from the coast Southwest of Steadman’s Landing ruins.  The sail will conclude back at the Pier Street Launch.  Click on the sidebar link "Course Map" to view.

Awards

Awards will be presented in the Endurance Dision:

·        “The Jack Rabbit” Award given to the fastest time completing the course in the following Classes:

  1. Catamaran
  2. Class A
  3. Class B
  4. Class C

·        “The Eeyore” Award given to the slowest time completing the course

·        “The Salty Dog” Award given to the oldest skipper to complete the course

·        “The Rascal” Award given to the youngest skipper to complete the course

Weather

Small sailboats do not have the luxury of sailing during certain weather conditions.  The PES Committee will determine if the endurance sail date needs to be changed due to rain or strong wind in the area.  The start of the sail may be delayed due to weather conditions.  The PES Committee will notify participants via email if the date is changed.  The predetermined make-up date is Saturday, June 12, 2010 at the same time.
