Asian American Breast Cancer Survivors Study - Protocol #06103

posted Nov 19, 2008 4:17 PM by Unknown user

Hi,

On behalf of Dr. Kimlin Ashing-Giwa, I would to contact your organization about our study of Asian American Breast Cancer Survivors at City of Hope, which is conducted by Dr Kimlin Ashing-Giwa and Dr. Jung-Won Lim to expand our scientific knowledge of breast cancer among Asian Americans including Chinese-, Japanese-, Korean-, Filipino-, and Vietnamese-Americans.  By promoting community-based research and health education, we aim at improving health outcomes and reducing cancer health disparities among diverse and medically underserved communities.

Our study involves selecting and contacting approximately 200 patients with breast cancer.  Participating patients will receive a letter in the mail approximately 6 months to 3 year following their diagnosis of breast cancer inviting them to attend to the survey related to family burden, functional strains, and quality of life. They will be asked to sign an informed consent form and complete the questionnaires, and return those by mail.  If they wish not to be contacted further, we will respect their wishes and no further contact will be made.  All information will be kept strictly confidential and patient responses will be grouped for the analyses. Participant will receive a $40.00 gift certificate upon completion of the questionnaire.

Attached are the flyer and the sign up sheet.  We would like to invite breast cancer survivors who are interested in participate this study, especially the population of Filipino-Americans.  It would be very helpful if you could provide us information about breast cancer support groups among Filipino-Americans in the area of Southern California.  Please feel free to call me at 626-535-3983 or please email me at syeung@coh.org at your convenience.

Thanks with Best Regards,
