From the President

To all our guests, community leaders, Consul General Mary Jo Bernardo Aragon, PNASC & PNASCA families, friends and supporters of the Philippine Nurses Association of Southern California, Inc., I welcome you to the induction of the 2009-2010 Executive Board. I thank all of you who have traveled far to celebrate with us tonight. It is such a great honor and privilege to be able to serve this organization in this capacity. I accept this presidency with deepest humility and as the President I will take this journey with my team to uphold the mission and vision of this organization. PNASC, Inc is the only recognized professional nursing organization of Filipino-American nurses in Southern California. For decades, this organization has a list of successful leaders who have paved the way for the Filipino-American nurses migrating here in the United States. These leaders have served as my mentors through these years. They have set a very strong foundation for future leaders to come. I am inspired to continue their work.

The theme of this administration is "Mobilizing PNASC by synergy with one voice and INSIGHT". I am inviting you to join us in this journey that we are about to embark. As nurses we use insight in our daily work.  It is that quality of looking at things intuitively. By synergy, we will use insight conceptually and operationally at the same time. INSIGHT is the acronym easy to remember that embodies the initiatives that we aim to achieve in the next two years. In the succeeding page, I have outlined these initiatives. To execute our agenda, we have values that we promise to uphold. It is not enough to talk the talk but we have to walk the talk with purpose, teamwork, excellence, integrity, professionalism and accountability.

I am very confident that with the talents and competence of my Executive Board, we will be successful in the implementation of this agenda. We are also aware of the challenges that face this organization. One of which is the recruitment and retention of members. We need strong membership to keep our organization viable and able to run its operations. It is the force of membership that will keep our voice being heard as one. My plea to you is to encourage our nursing colleagues to learn the mission of PNASC and join our cause. If each one of you will tell a friend about PNASC and become a member then we can be twice, triple or quadruple times stronger as an organization. Helen Keller in her quote said "Alone we can do so little, together we can do so much". For all the nursing colleagues here tonight, let us join our forces so we can do great things for our profession, for our Fil-Am constituents, our patients and communities we serve. Let us be one strong voice, one strong force in nursing in this country. Work with our Executive Board in forging forward with our agenda.

I especially thank my parents who have been so supportive with every decision I make. They are my light and my strength. To all my friends and coworkers who inspire me every day, thank you. You are my every day heroes. My special thanks to the outgoing Executive Board through the leadership of Brenda Cohen for the job well done in the last two years. Last but not least, thank you PNASC Auxiliaries, Warlie Galzote and the Program Committee members for this memorable night.

Maraming salamat po sa inyong lahat. Mabuhay!
