Gigapixls in Google Earth

Advanced image editing in Google Earth

Adding High Resolution Photographs from your field studies

In the Layers menu of Google Earth 4.2, look in "Gallery" layer, and check the box next to "Gigapxl Photos".  Take a cruse around Earth, find the camera icons, click to look at how these photographs are placed on Earth.  Zoom in on several photos to see the amazing close up view you can get of these photographs.  Notice how the photographs are placed on the terrain.  Now add some of your own photographs. Here's how:

1. In the top tool bar of Google Earth click "Add/Photo"

2. Name your image in the pop up window.

3. If your image is on your computer, click the "Browse" button to locate the image on your hard drive.  If the image is on the Web, make sure you have the direct address of the Web image by right clicking or ctrl clicking on the image to "view image" or "properties". Then copy that URL and paste it in the URL in the link box.

4. Adjust your image by clicking on the "Heading" and "Tilt" sliders and the "Field of View" Horizontal and Vertical sliders in the Edit Photo Overlay pop-up box.

5. Click the "View" menu in the Edit Overlay pop-up box and click "Snapshot Current View" setting the image to be viewed at that specific location.

6. Describe your photograph in the "Description" menu of the "Edit Photo Overlay" pop-up box.  Click "OK".

To Edit Placemarks, Image Overlays or Photo Overlays in Google Earth: Right click or ctrl click on the link in the Places side bar menu of Google Earth and click "Properties"
