Society of Biblical Literature Program Unit
The Theological Hermeneutics of Christian Scripture Group of the Society of Biblical Literature explores the hermeneutical innovations and theological implications of the location of critical biblical interpretation within the confessional communities of the Christian tradition. Particular attention is given to the relationship between systematic theology, practical theology, philosophical theology, and biblical studies, with respect to their nature and status as discrete disciplines.
Theological hermeneutics and theological interpretation of Scripture are taking form as an interdisciplinary activity and, in some sectors, emerging as a new discipline. Younger scholars engaged in this Group will find here both critical community and scholarly identity for this emerging discipline, while established scholars will find an arena for engagement in cross-disciplinary discourse. The best materials discussed in this Group appear in Journal of Theological Interpretation.
