Theodore Bach

I am Professor of Philosophy at Bowling Green State University Firelands College. My research focuses on several topics in the philosophy of science, social ontology, and metaphilosophy. I am particularly interested in questions concerning the status of natural or real kinds in the social sciences.

Recent publications include "The Importance of Realism about Gender Kinds: Lessons from Beauvoir," in Analyse and Kritik, "Same-Tracking Real Kinds in the Social Sciences," in Synthese, "In Defense of Armchair Expertise," in Theoria, "Real Kinds in Real Time: On Responsible Social Modeling," in The Monist, "Children and Added Sugar: The Case for Restriction," in the Journal of Applied Philosophy, and "Gender is a Natural Kind with a Historical Essence," in Ethics. These and other papers I've written can be downloaded from the "Papers" tab above.

I live with my family in wonderful Lakewood Ohio. I am humbled by my seven-year-old son, who regularly beats me at Cribbage, and my four-year-old daughter, who is more inventive and skilled at building Magnatile structures than I could ever hope to be (and who has become a fierce challenger at Carcassonne).
