All folding screens are handmade in Australia. Screens are made using traditional Japanese methods"Kumiko".
The screen is single sided as per Japanese construction.
The fabric used is not the traditional Japanese paper but a more durable fabric obtained in Australia. The fabric is thicker and more durable for western use.

SHOJI CONSTRUCTION

Despite their complex function within the home, shoji are of eminently simple construction. A lightweight wooden frame consisting of horizontal "rails" and vertical "stiles"supports a lattice of thin sticks, called KUMIKO in Japanese. Paper or other translucent sheeting material is attached to the back(outside) of the lattice. A shoji may be single layer of kumiko with the paper glued onto the back, or a sandwich type with two layers of kumiko and the paper in between. This double lattice show the grid from both sides, and is popular in the West, where it seems more "finished". In Japan, most shoji are single sided, one explanation for this being that a shoji is like a human head: it has only one face and one backside.

This screen is too big for Australia Post, so email us with your postcode for a courier quote(courier fee is not included in the  price). 

Please bear in mind we live in the Kangaroo Valley which is a rural area, so after posting the item(s) any courier will take time to consolidate. It is not fast like the city areas, however our courier is very cheap, but can take some time to reach you. After posting, we will send you a tracking number.
