Introduction to LBC

Welcome to Laurentian Badminton Club!

Laurentian Badminton Club (LBC) moved from its former location, Laurentian High School on Baseline Road to the Sir Winston Churchill (SWC) Middle School since September, 2005. The club proudly kept the Laurentian name which was established before 1960's. Sir Winston Churchill (SWC) Middle School is located in the Parkwood Hills area, on the south side of Meadowlands 2 blocks east of Merivale Road at 49 Mulvagh Street.

The SWC school gymnasium has 4 brightly lighted and evenly spaced regulation sized courts. There are no obstructions on any of the courts and the ceiling is over 40 feet high. It has soft cushioned floor which provides excellent traction and being in dark grey with easy to see white line marking makes it ideal for badminton.

LBC established itself as the club of choice in the Nepean and west end of Ottawa. We cap the number of members to 50 to ensure every member will enjoy ample playing time with little or no waiting between games. Our games are fun and yet competitive in a social atmosphere. Our simple tagging system allows members to tag up with players of their choice or quickly to the next available court. We encourage members to change partners after every game so no one is discriminated. All games are in doubles format. Singles are permitted when free courts are available and nobody is waiting.

Our membership recruiting practice is ongoing throughout the season and only when a current member resigns. If you wish to be considered, please contact Phil Yang with a brief description of your experience. As spots are usually very limited, you will be invited to come for a try out and only intermediate and advanced level players will be considered.
