Welcome to the NeuroFiles!

A site where hungry minds come to feed...on themselves!

Your humble host

Some interesting neuroscience vids

A Chance Encounter

In all my glory - check out the small temporal lobe!

Greetings! I'm glad you found your way to this humble little web page hidden away on one of the backroads off the superhighway. The name is Jeremy Biane. I'm a PhD student studying neuroscience at UC San Diego and created this space to share my knowledge, enthusiasm and amazement for that convoluted clump of tissue referred to as the brain.

The page is currently under construction, but I hope to have up several articles designed to whet your appetite for science in general, and the brain in particular, before long. In the meantime, check out the links to the left to get a better feel of what I do when I'm not in the lab, or to watch a few short videos on my most favorite of topics.

___________

4/5/07 - Whoo hoo! First article up. Ever wonder what a brain is? Might want to strap a helmet on, because it just might BLOW YOUR MIND!!!

6/27/07 - Ok, school was a bit more time consuming than I anticipated. My apologies to the hoards of you who have been excitedly checking this site daily for the next installment. However, the wait is over! Stuff your brain full of some FAQs. (Oh, and your continued patience on the neuron article, please).

8/19/07 - Know what else was time consuming? My summer lab rotation (and deciding which of the four labs I rotated in that I want to call home for the next four or more years). But I put up another article on memory and how unsuspecting experiences can unconsciously control our behavior. Pretty interesting stuff. Take a look!

9/17/07 - What? Less than a month since my last entry? I'm plowing through this field called neuroscience! Check out 'Less than meets the eye." You even get to participate in this one. What fun!

1/3/08 - Happy New Year! I met a very interesting fellow in lab a little while back - the kind of encounter I just had to write about afterwards. It's not explicitly about the brain, but more about the ramifications of its malfunction. "A Chance Encounter."

2/07/08 - Hey all (i.e., Jen). I know it's been a while since I've had a quality update, but more articles will be coming soon, I promise. Also, for any of you in San Diego, stop by the Fleet Science Center on March 15 to catch some FREE neuroscience presentations given by yours truly and some of my exceedingly clever classmates. Bring along the youngsters as well!

5/28/09 - Over a year since the last update? For shame. But I have not been entirely inactive in the interim. My efforts have largely been diverted to a new, burgeoning brain informatics site, which is much more comprehensive and ambitious. My idiosyncratic contributions can be found mostly at the Biane Homepage and the Axon Newspage.

11/05/09 - Well, well. What are you doing here? Don't you know that the party is over at OneSci? News, journal article reviews, conference posters, protocols, philosophical musings, and a few really cool easter eggs, if you search around enough. We were even selected as an official neuroblogger for the 2009 Society for Neuroscience conference. C'mon over. And if you like what you see, join us!
