Cut Scenes

Cut scenes in TMJ will be sort of like The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker, where they have an appearance of hand-drawn artwork on parchment.  The cels can be created with a medium like colored pencil or water colors on onion skin or other paper that has the natural appearance of age.

A single screen on the Nintendo DSi Browser can show 240px by 176px.  For animation cels to be slowly scrollable and give room for the pop-up dialog windows (for narration), each cell should be 240px by 180px.  Most of the action should lie above the bottom 40px.  Cut scenes will be assembled as giant images, stored as CSS backgrounds, that are scrolled with scripts so that jumping between cels will not need any load-time.

I have looked over the intro, it looks like only black, and 2 or 3 colors were used. i believe i can do this, or at least, get very close. hope this helps hull. oh, and do u want it to be like the intro? have it very long in parts, so scrolling from left to right is possible, and also, write what is being translated in runes, on the bottom of the picture? if u dont remember, just look at the link above.

ill try to work on this asap, but i'll need to find parchment.....

Don't worry about parchment. Just use regular paper. I can take care of the aged parchment effect to my end. Also, would you be able to add a few more faint colors to give a sort of watercolor effect?

Matthew Marshall - Sep 19, 2009 10:01 AM

watercolor? sure, i could do this. do you mean to do a water brush to smudge, or to just coat with a faint brown, or to actually make the cutscenes have different colors?

Daniel Gump - Sep 19, 2009 12:41 PM

Faint colors would look nice.

Matthew Marshall - Sep 19, 2009 1:55 PM

ok. colors isnt my forte, but i think i can make it happen. :D

Daniel Gump - Sep 20, 2009 5:45 AM

If it's easier, you can make the pictures in black and white, and I can add the colors.

Matthew Marshall - Sep 20, 2009 1:31 PM

uhhh. sure, i think that would work out better :D
