Tile Editor

I've started working on a new tool that's sort of a merger between DSiPaint and DSiPaint Spriter, which I think would be a good way to make tiles for TMJ.  If you can think of any features for it that would be easy to create and use on the Nintendo DSi Browser.  Remember that this is not Flip Note Studio, this is a BROWSER, so features must be realistic for the slow speed and response.  Here is what I have implemented so far:

1. Draw on a 4x zoomed tile / preview in a 1x zoomed tile
2. Fixed tile size of 32 x 32
3. Flood fill a solid color
4. Draw a solid color as a single pixel
5. Flood fill "barf" mode, which randomizes colors similar to the current one
6. Draw "barf" mode

I thought about making a size picker like DSiPaint has, but when you go from a 160 x 160 drawing to a 32 x 32 drawing, the need for larger brushes really diminishes.  Also, adding the brush sizes eats up screen real estate that could be used for other features.

The screen currently has the tile palette that DSiPaint and DSiPaint Spriter have, which incorporates 4096 colors.  Since the browser doesn't seem to have the ability to even show that many, I may reduce the number of colors to the 1000 or so that DSiPaint used to have.  This will make color picking much easier to accomplish.

I would like to have this tool ready by the weekend.  Please submit any ideas you have whenever you get a chance, and I will try to quickly implement them.

Also, do you think that I should open up this tool to anyone who uses dsipaint.com to increase the pool of artists?

I will add screenshots in the next few days.

This sounds great! You could give the ability to use the tile editor to the general public of DSiPaint, but realisticly there would be so many submissions you'd never get through them all. It's a tough choice. But seeing as tiles will be hand drawn, I could enhance them on pc when some are chosen, if you'd like. A grid would be helpfull, maybe if you can turn the grid on and off?

GREAT IDEA! I think people could really use this.
(Are You Going To Use My Idea On Previous News? I can give you code and u can change anything n it)

Btw, If Your Trying to deside If You should Realise It To Everyone, I wouldn't, just give it to the people who have their art in top 10, that way you have 10people working on art, if a few don't want to u could goto top20 and so on

I think it would be better to hand select users.

It took me 15 seconds to make a sample brick tile:
1. Choose reddish color.
2. Click the barf flood-fill.
3. Choose a grayish color.
4. Click the barf draw.
5. Draw the mortar lines.

I'm going to make a 2x2 tile preview on the screen to help with drawing. Also, I'd like to have filters for brightness, contrast, and smoothing, plus copy-and-paste. since the tile is 32x32, it's much easier to do that quickly and without running out of memory than with DSiPaint and DSiPaint Spriter.

THIS SOUNDS EPIC!! I agree with PieBoy... It's probably best to hand select users, long with the developers with tmj
