Each day, a student in our classroom is assigned to be the Class Blogger. His or her job is to write a short article about what took place in class that day. Using a computer at home, students type their articles and turn them in to Miss Malakoff via e-mail or flash drive. This way, students get an opportunity to write using technology, and Miss Malakoff can easily upload the articles to The Daily Blog. This webpage is updated daily, so be sure to check back often to read about life in Room 2313!

In the morning
when I arrived at school, I unpacked and completed my morning work. Today’s
morning work was “use your spelling words to write a summary”. After the announcement we lined up in the
classroom to leave the school and we left to the symphony on the school bus. On
the bus, I sat with Aishwarya and Sanjana. After arriving at the Auditorium, we
went to see the symphony. There I got to hear different types of Instruments
like Wood-wind, Strings, Base, & Percussion. It was nice to hear different
sounds of music. After the symphony got over, we again got back on the bus to go
back to school. When we got back to the school, we went directly to our
classroom. Today I read the book called
“A tale Dark & Grimm” . It was 1:00PM and it was time to go to
recess, I played a game called helicopter. Later we went to Cafeteria as it was
Lunch time, after having my lunch we went to Music. In music we discussed on
what we had learnt in the symphony. After Music we went back to the classroom,
it was time for math. Today we learnt Line Graphs in math class. Finally it was
3:45 PM and the bell rang. It was time for us to go back home. March
1st was a fun day.

Today was a busy day at
Cedar Fork Elementary School! I arrived at school this morning with a grin on
my face. Tom Birdseye, a famous author, would be visiting today. The morning
work was to write math problems into your math notebook and then solve them, so
I did. After that, I finished my personal narrative writing assignment. My
topic was the first time I played soccer. Then we lined up to go to the author
visit. It was in the cafeteria. There, Tom Birdseye talked about his life and
how he became a writer. He said that you could write a story from your personal
experiences. We went back to our classroom and had lunch there. I talked with
Joe & Sabarish. Then we lined up again to go to recess. We played tag. When
we came back inside, the teacher read the book City of Ember. It
was exciting! We worked on our writing after. In technology, We learned how to
use a program called Kidspiration. Later, our group presented one of our 2
social studies projects. Our group made a log cabin out of tiles and clay. It
was really fun to make. Today was a pretty exciting day! |

Today
was the type of day where it was PERFECT! J! We started the day
with some Morning Work. We had to complete any of our unfinished
work! J !
We now
moved on to MATH, hooray! J ! We did some mental
division to warm up. Afterwards we did math where you
find out what the variable (symbol) equals. Miss Malakoff did
this with us in a FUN WAY!
Than we
moved on with READING, double hoorayJ! J! JWe had to take a
critical thinking test. We had to write a journal entry about how we are
bullied in college. We also checked a partner’s contract to see how they are
doing. I got an A for completing my contract. Finally, we all got a
chance to READ! J!
Next, we
had lunch. I bought my lunch and ate with Sarika. We talked about
school and how we are enjoying it.
At recess I played jump rope with Sarika,
Sanjana, Olivia, Rosemarie, Savannah, and Ruby. It was
fun. When the game was over me and Sarika talked a
little.
We now had Team Time. I was
with Ms. Gainey. We did the same things that were done in math only with new
strategies. We also did a worksheet. Team Time was fun.
Finally,
we came back. We wrote in our planners and packed up. The
bell rang and everyone went home. There you have it I hope you also
thought today was just PERFECTJ ! J

Sanjana’s Blog 2/15/12
Today was a regular,
but busy day. We started our day with our morning work. We were working on
something that we had pasted in our math spiral notebooks. In math we checked
our homework, and we worked on some order of operations. Later, in reading, we
learned about character motivation for example, why characters say what they
say, do what they do, and think what they think. After that we had lunch and I
had Indian food for lunch. At recess I played with Anjali, Jessica, Sarika,
Nirmiti, and Aishwarya. It was very nice weather outside and recess time was
lot of fun. After we came back inside, Miss Malakoff read us The City of
Ember. Then we worked on finishing writing our main events, but I was not
able to do as I did not have enough time. In specials, we went to media. When
we came back to class, we started to work on our social studies projects. Me
and my partners were working on the Trail of Tears presentation. When we were
finished with Social Studies, it was time to go home. February the 15th
was a great day.

As I walked into the classroom
quietly early morning at school, I gazed at the directions on the board of my
morning work. I had to do a problem and paste it into my spiral notebook. After
I finished it, I started reading a book called “Gargoyles don’t drive school
buses” in the Bailey school kids series. Then, we started to do math. We were
learning to write the equation with the variable and give the answer. When we
finished math, we started our reading workshop. We got the new contract and
other stuff. I did the word work sheet. At 11:45 am, we had to rush to lunch. I
ate some rice at lunch. After we got out of the lunchroom, we had to go to
recces. I played soccer at recces. I was really exhausted after recess was
finished. We came back into the classroom and wrote our homework in our
planners. Next, we started to do writing. We were working on our main event. I
had to color code it after it was finished. Then, it was 2:00 pm and we went to
media for specials. We had a substitute during our specials. When we came back,
we worked on our projects on the mountain region. At 3:45 pm, it was time for
dismissal to go home.

Valentine’s Day

Today
was not like any other day because it was Valentine’s day! First we did our morning work which was a
division WS. I only finished 1 page of the WS. After that we went to Art. Some
people worked on their shell paintings. The other people got to free draw or
make a valentine. I made a valentine for Savannah. After Art we had a test on
reading. I got 92%. Next we had lunch. I
had a pb sandwich and chips. I played with Savannah at recess. It started to
rain so we went back inside early. Ms. Malakoff received flowers from her
boyfriend for Valentine’s Day. We went back to class and worked on drafting the
main event of our winter story. After
writing, we reviewed order of operations in math, parenthesis, exponents,
multiplication, division, addition and subtraction. We had a Valentine party. We passed out Valentines and had a
snack. It was a fun day!!!

Usually I start my day coming into the
classroom, unpacking my backpack and doing my morning work, except today I had
to take an ITBS test. It stands for Iowa test for basic skills. Our subject was Reading. We had 23 minutes for
the whole subject. When we were done with the test we came back to the class and
we were practicing mean, mode, median, and range .It is related to rounding.
Then we moved on to Reading. We were learning how to determine the plot. So we
took a test on Reading for us to determine the plot. While we were taking the
test we got our snacks .I had yummy manderines from Spain. We moved on to
Reading workshop. I was just starting a book called ‘’Lawn Boy Returns”. It is
pretty good. We lined up for lunch and I was sitting next to Sarika and
Aishwarya, I had a peanut butter and jelly sandwich. The peanut butter was
crunchy. I finished it all up .I like the jelly better than the peanut butter.
Recess came, everybody ran out the door like a gust of wind. I didn’t want to
play, I just felt like talking to Sarika and Aishwarya. We came back to class
and wrote down our puny homework. Then finally we started writing for our
personal narratives. We were working on mostly action and description. I
couldn’t finish, but tried my best. Specials came. It was Music. Instead of
watching a video we sang songs like ‘’Chumbara’’.At last we were on Social
Studies. We were working on a log cabin, and I was making pillows/furniture. The end of the day came. It was fun
learning something informative and helpful. I had such a great day! |

The Daily Blog By: Savannah Today started off with a page from our homework and remembering book. It was page 200. After that Sarika checked if we did our homework or not. Then we said the Pledge of Alligence. In math we took a quiz. But before that we watched a video. The video was about mean, median, and mode. After the quiz we did reading workshop. I was done with all the activities so I read and ate my snack. Then it was time for our reading lesson. We had to summarize a story called Basketball Ballet. Next we had lunch. I ate grilled cheese it was delicious. A few minutes later we had recess I played with my friends Rosemarie, Rubie and Olivia. I had tons of fun! Soon we went back upstairs. We did writing and learned about the writing diamond. Next we went to technology. In technology we heard Miss Shrode’s Mountain Lion story it was hilarious! J In Social Studies we talked about the project we will begin eventually. Finally but sadly the day had came to an end! L So from then I read a book until my bus was called and hoped that the rest of my day at after school would be fun! |

Today was
February 1, 2012. First we did morning work, it was math page190. Later we
checked our work and also checked our homework page189. Then we did math, we
played a game called Division madness. After that we did Reading Workshop I
read Marvin Of North Woods. It
was about a boy who was sent for the winter away from home with some
lumberjacks people who cut wood. After that I had a nice warm lunch it mac and
cheese. Later we had Team Time I went to Ms. Kirn and did division problems.
After that I was late for specials and had to catch up to the class fast! I
went into Technology and did free day. When we got back in the class Aishwarya
showed a presentation about her experience with a sickness and how it affected
her life. Then it was time to go home and we packed up and left the school for
the rest of the day.

Today was a great day! I started out the day
by playing chess in the chess club. I played against Kelly in chess. I
beat her! Next, I did morning work page 154. Later, we did Math we were learning
2-by-2, 1-by-2, 2by3, and 1by3 division. It
was challenging since I never tried it but Ms. Malakoff gave us strategies to
help us solve the equation.
Soon it was time for Reading.
We learned about legends stories that were told
down through generation through generation. Then we read the legend of the Blue
Bonnet. It was about a girl who gave her
most valuable thing to her and burned it to save her tribe.
Then it was time for lunch I had chicken
sticks with ketchup. Later, we went outside and played. It was boiling hot
outside. By the time I got inside I was sweating like crazy ready to jump at
the fountain and drink. We had writing
next. We got to read and write. Later, after that we went to Technology and went
to Study Island. We had to answer questions
about Martin Luther King Jr. about skin color segregation and his life.
Soon we were back in the classroom and ready
to leave and do our homework at our homes.
We rushed out of the school and into our buses, cars, our bikes, our
after schools. It was a wonderful day at
Cedar Fork Elementary.
