How to Hit a Homerun

by Sabarish

I am a expert at hitting homeruns in baseball. My dad to use to coach me from when I was 5.  Then when I was 6, I entered the Morrisville Minor League Baseball. Me and my dad still enjoy playing baseball together and practicing hitting the ball, catching the ball and fielding. My dad use to play a lot of cricket. That’s how he got so good at baseball. Cricket is very closely related to baseball.

To become an expert at hitting a homerun, you have to gather the equipment. You  will need baseball cleats, a baseball bat and a baseball. You need baseball cleats because you need to do some stepping forward if you want to hit a homerun. You have to hold the bat properly because it will hurt your hands if don’t hold it properly.  You should hold the bat with both hands touching each other. Then practice swinging the bat so, you will not miss the ball. Also, swing in a place where there is no people . You should swing as hard as you can into a OPEN AREA. While doing that, you should step forward with your front foot.

Finally, hit the ball as the instructions are given so, you can hit a homerun.

If, it is a homerun, it will go over the fence ,or, into the field. You should have ran all the bases. If one of these didn’t happen it is not a homerun. Good luck on hitting your homerun!

HOW TO BUILD A SNOWMAN

By ALI

I am an expert at building snowmen and I learned it by my self. All you need to build a snowman is snow, two sticks, hat, six candies, carrot, buttons and for your self a coat. You need all those supplies to make your snowman better, more fun, and cool looking and to make a mouth, nose and eyes!

Something important about making a snowman is you need a place to put it somewhere the sun doesn’t go much, so it won’t melt as fast, so not in the sun! Then you need to make three round circles of snow, so you need to be good at rounding snow! So you need to make three different sized snowballs, then you need to make them stick together! The snowballs need one biggest, then a small one for the head, then a medium sized one which goes in the middle it’s between the other sizes. To make the snowballs stick, you need to keep tapping the snow together until it stays and doesn’t fall apart that should help the snow stick together! That should help you but don’t tap TOO HARD!!! Now you are ready to stack the snowballs on top of each other, so I always carefully pick up the medium sized snowball put it on top of the biggest snowball, then put the smallest on the medium sized snowball!

Now you are ready to make the face of your snowman! First you put two round candies for the eyes, the carrot for the nose, the last four candies for the mouth any way you want! The hat put on the head, put the scarf around his or her neck! So the buttons go in a straight line down the other snowballs, the sticks for the arms then your snowman is done hope you enjoy your snowman!!!

How to Make a Paper Airplane

By Rohan

I am an expert at making paper airplanes.  I learned how to make and throw them from my dad when I was about 6 years old. I still enjoy giving them to other people!

To properly make a paper airplane, you first need to gather a pair of scissors and a piece of paper (letter-sized). Then find a big table or a place where you can freely fit your supplies. First take a corner of the paper and pull it across the paper until the top of the paper is touching the left or right side. Keep it folded, and cut off the paper that’s not folded. Next, unfold it and then fold it vertically (hot-dog style). Unfold, and then take the top left or top right corner and bring it down so that the corner is touching the crease that you made when you folded the paper vertically. Do the same thing to the other corner, and keep on doing it to them until you are satisfied. You have now successfully made a paper airplane!

How to use: Hold it with your right hand, and put your fingers like you would with a pencil. Then make an ‘L’ shape with your arm and throw it a little (about a foot) above the target. If it lands more than three feet away, you need to adjust it so it is symmetrical and the point isn’t dull. Have fun flying your new paper airplane!

Pourquoi Tales

posted Feb 15, 2011 12:01 PM by L M   [ updated Feb 17, 2011 10:20 AM ]

Pourquoi tales are folktales that explain how something in nature came to be.  Students read a few Pourquoi tales as we explored folklore and legends during the 3rd Quarter.  Below, students picked their favorite Pourquoi tale and provide you with a summary of the tale and why they enjoy it so much.

Why the sun and the moon live in the sky

Out of all the pourquoi tales I read my favorite was Why the Sun and the Moon Live in the Sky. Because It was pretty funny to me. And the reason I think it is funny is that at the end it describes how the moon and the sun actually end up in the sky. That was my favorite part of why the sun and the moon live in the sky. Here is a little summary about the tale. The moon and the sun where married and sun and water were really good friends and water was huge. So moon wanted water to come over but water was too big so water said if you build a huge house maybe will everybody will fit. So moon and his wife built a big house. For the rest of the summary you will have to read the tale. I hope you liked my review. (:

The Sun and the Moon

by Connor

The sun and the moon is a fantastic Pourquoi Tale. In this tale the sun`s wife is the moon and is the sun is   friends with the sea. The sun always going in sea`s house and the sun wants’ the sea to come in his house. The sea say`s you have to big house for me to get in my hole body. The sun and the moon build a humongous house to try to get the sea to fit in. the sea goes In the house and asked do you want more of me to come in the sun says yes and he keeps asking the same thing and he says yes. Soon the sun and the moon have to get in the sky and their so high
in the sky that they can`t come down. That’s why the sun and the moon are so high in the sky.

How the turtle flew south for the winter

 by aditya

In the Pourquoi Tales T he turtle that flew is my favorite tale in this book. In this story my favorite part is the part   the turtle exclaims that he wants To fly south like a Bird   because they inform him that in the winter there are less chances that you will survive because there is barley any Food. I like this book because it teaches you a lesson and   it is very clear about how the Story is in sequence. This story also teaches you about how you have to listen to your friends. It started out as many people started gathering up and started   Talking about how surprising it is that a turtle can fly but accidently it opened its mouth to reply to them. This story is just not a tale but it is a Folklore so it is like a Greek Myth, this is also related to Legend because it is a tale that is past down from families. Hope you enjoy reading this tale and pass it down like a Legend!!

Post a Review

Byron

I like How Turtle Flew South for the Winter because I have read it in different versions.  It is fun to see how people make changes to the story.  This version is about a turtle who wanted to go south, so he got two swans to hold onto a stick and he held onto the middle of the stick.  Then he wanted to ask where he was; so he opened his mouth and fell to the ground.  He cracked his shell and he dug a hole in the ground to get away from the sky.

My  Pourqoi  Review

by fabiÁn

My  favorite  pourqoi  tale  was  Why  The  Sun  and  The  Moon  Live  in  the  Sky.  I  liked  it  because  it was the  most  kid  friendly  one  out  of  the  three  and  I  understood  it  the  most.  My   favorite  part  was  when  the  Sun  and  the  Moon  did  not  what  they  were  say and  the  just  kept  on  coming  in. The  question  I  wonder  is  why  couldn’t  the  Sun  and the  Moon  just  jump  off  the  roof and  tell the  Water  to  cushion  their  fall? Overall  this  pourqoi tale  was  really  funny  and  entertaining, and I also liked  what  part  of  nature  it  was  explaining.

Emily's Review on Pourquoi Tales
My favorite pourquoi tale was Why The Sun And The Moon Live In The Sky. I like this pourquoi tale because I thought it had to do a little bit of greek mythology. My favorite part was when the sun asked the water why he never came to visit him at his house. Water said that sun’s house was to small for Water and his family to fit. So he told Sun and his wife the Moon to make their house bigger so they could fit. The week later Sun called Water and his family to come and see their new house.  When Water’s family came over so much water got into the house the Sun and Moon started to go up into the sky. But, when they got as high as possible they like it so much they didn’t want to come down. So that’s how people think the sun and the moon got into the sky.

Why the sun and the moon live in the sky

 Summary & Review by Avish

There are 3 Pourquoi Tales and I think Why The Sun And The Moon Live In The Sky is the best. It really describes the steps in how it took the sun and the moon to live in the sky. It started with how sun and water were friends. Then sun started to think that water never comes to my house and so when water accepted suns invitation, sun and moon needed to construct a very big house. Finally water came in suns house. He had so many relatives that suns house went higher and higher until sun and moon ended up in the sky. I know that it is impossible for me to come up with a story like this. My favorite part was when at the end, how the house got higher and higher, and finally the sun and the moon ended up in the sky. That was also the funniest part for me.
