What and Why is "The Lion's Share"?

Ok, so here is the "official" short version: The Lion's Share is a regularly reoccurring podcast that is focused on emerging and ongoing media research projects and interests of media scholars, former and practicing, as well as the occasional interview with interesting media workers and their emergent thoughts on the ever-changing media ecologies. That's what you tell your friends, your colleagues and your enemies.

But here's what it really is... for now. Right now it's an experiment that is devoted to helping media researchers think out loud about what they are doing. Part of that experiment is coming from me, the interviewer (for now, although many more should come in the future), another from the interviewee and, most importantly, the audience. My intent is to see if we can get at the processes involved in media research rather than simply focus on the end product. However, the twist is to do it in as informal manner as possible. As I have found out in my initial interviews, this is a much more difficult task than I initially conceived. It takes a solid interviewer, which is something I only hope to become over time. That said, I am excited to begin this. And with help from Media Commons, we will be working to better integrate their blog and forums such as In Media Res into the podcast to grow the research community and conversation.

So, if you want to keep in better touch, please feel free to join the podcast's facebook group where I will work to help grow the community. Also, if you would like to contribute and talk about your research, or offer any helpful suggestion, please feel free to write me at a tjanders@odu.edu or loganpoppy@gmail.com.And, of course, download and listen to the first podcast, an Interview with Dr. Derek Kompare of Southern Methodist University and his work on CSI.

Hope to hear from you soon!
