Perth and Kinross Adult Literacy and Numeracy Partnership's key objective is to
 
"work in partnership to promote, develop and support
adult literacy throughout Perth and Kinross
enabling adults to develop their skills so they can participate fully
in their personal, family, work and community life".
  
The Lifelong Learning Team
 

The team supports and encourages young people and adults to fulfill their potential by supporting them to:

  • Develop their reading, writing, spelling, number skills
  • Improve their use of everyday English For Speakers of Other Languages(ESOL)
  • Confidently express their opinions and make informed choices in everyday life
  • Improve their ability to access employment, volunteering or community activities
  • Develop their confidence in accessing further learning
  • Become more successful learners

Carnegie College at HMP Perth
 
Her Majesty Prison and Young Offenders Institution Perth is situated on 2 sites, the main prison and the YOI Facility at Friarton.  HMP Perth provides accommodation for adult males serving anything from remand to life.
All prisoners both convicted and untried are targeted under education contract. We offer:
  • Induction, Assessment and Initial Screeining
  • Individual Learning Plans and Reviews
  • Programmed learning opportunities
  • Flexible Distance Learning
  • Higher Education Courses
The programmed learning opportunities focus on the Core Skills curriculum, in particular Literacy and Numeracy, I.C.T. and Communication. Other classes support Personal to Social Development, which covers Core Skills such us Working with Others, Problem Solving and Employability issues.

C.A.T.H. (Churches Action for The Homeless)
 
C.A.T.H. is a progressive local charity which supports, encourages and promotes the development and delivery of projects to alleviate homelessness, poor and sub-standard housing and associated problems in the Perth and Kinross District. CATH is a company limited by guarantee with charitable status, based in Perth.
We help nearly 700 people a year to overcome homelessness issues through our projects.

You Can Learn It Ltd
 
You Can Learn It Ltd is a social enterprise company providing training for people with disabilities to use computers.
 
The service aims to support individuals, support workers, carers and tutors in workshops and group projects. 
The company promotes the use of free and low cost software recognising the fact that adaptive technology is usually costly for the individual users.
Literacy support is delivered with the use of computer technology in workshops and projects within the community.

PUSH
 
PUSH is a charitable organisation, which promotes Person Centred Planning as they work for inclusion for people with learning disabilities. We are a small, dedicated and friendly team of staff and volunteers who work hard to help people with learning difficulties, their families, carers and support staff.
 
We contributes to the Literacy Project by providing clients with opportunities, built around a group setting, that further enhance their numeracy and literacy skills within a practical, functional and fun setting that is then transferable to other areas in their life.

The Libraries and Lifelong Learning

AK Bell Library, 2-8 York Place, Perth

Libraries in Perth and Kinross offer a range of different services for all age groups and abilities within the local community. They all stock a collection of various resources which can be used by anyone looking for a quick read but are particularly chosen to help adults develop their reading skills.

Murray Royal Hospital

The Forensic Unit within Murray Royal Hospital has approximately 70 patients, all of whom have severe and enduring mental illness. 

Our two part-time ALN tutors work with approximately one third of the patients, tailoring learning to their individual needs. The aim is threefold: to increase their confidence and self-esteem, to increase their ability to deal with independent living, and to encourage and promote lifelong learning.
