Again - where's the problem?Problem is: iM09 (actually: 8.0.4. here in use) is no DV-editor anymore, as any previous version was (iMovie vers≤6) or as FCE is. iM vers≤6 copied the bits&bytes from any miniDV tape.. it created an identical clone of your precious raw videos.. even 'editing' your clips, adding titles and transitions, doing fancy effects, added little to no quality loss. AD forum member Lennart once did a dozend times ex- and import of an iM project => no quality loss... When iM08 araised, I made the same test.. The 10x Ex- and Import Test - all new iMovie failed. Not only a (dramatic) quality loss, the size (not the res!) of the video changed somehow, some kind.. odd. ok, let's do our 'stripe' test, inspired by Euising: PALI made a pic, PAL res (758x564), 1 pix stripe of red/green, copied it 128x times and made with QTpro a DV-stream of it: (click on it to see in full size… no, just red and green…) Import that dv-stream into a PAL-project. First try: Export Movie/Large: (click for full size… ) oooops, what happend here? The vertical solution, 'Large' offers, is 540.. that is NOT PAL, nor is it DVD, nor is it … ok, 2nd try: Export using Quicktime/DV, PAL: hmmmm.. in iMovie vers≤6, we would see a pic as the very first one; again here, we see some 'schwurbel' - the vertical solution got mixed, blended, kaputt . Probably, you've heard at AD about some mysterious 'bad' effects, which will harm your project - no need for any effect, PAL is destroyed automatically in vertical resolution. but, for your personal interested, I added such a 'bad' effect to my silly PAL project: (clickydeeclick) .. hmm, well.. in my humble opinion, that 'bad' effect has no bad effect at all.. the export was allready bad, before adding any effect. ok, perhaps this is a PAL issue.. back to the drawing board, creating some tons of NTSC material.. hold the line for a minute, I have to switch IM09 too.. (Preferences, quit, relaunch....) NTSCthank you for your patience... We start with our striped-test-video... click to enlarge when you export such a dv from within iM09 choosing 'Export Movie' you get: click to enlarge let's try 'Export using Quicktime/DV' click to enlarge So, DV isn't handled anymore as DV. knowing that, we can 'trick' iM09.. We convert our dv-stream into AIC with NTSC settings (720x480, 29.97fps), no surprise, looks like our DV source, pic #1 above: click to enlarge |
