God has always wanted to relate with Humanity through a Chosen People. Not everybody can read and write, or see, hear, smell for that matter. But we all have enough faculties to relate with people in one way or another and this relating fulfills one of our deepest desires. God made us that way, in his own "image and likeness". Also God wants to enjoy our company like friends meeting "in the cool of the evening" in the garden of Paradise.
When Jesus came and "pitched his tent" among us, he broke through human restrictions to relate with all types of people. Renewing the Chosen People, he called his followers to be servants of one another and to show forth the very love that he has with the Father. In this way, they would be the hinge in God's relationship with humanity. From humanity's point of view, the Church would be God's 'universal sacrament of salvation'.
The Holy Spirit dwells in this Chosen People with its new covenant in the blood of Jesus. Living in the Church, the Spirit is restoring creation. The Church itself is to be an example of that 'new creation' for all to see. By taking up our own crosses and following Jesus, the Chosen People show the way into the life of the Blessed Trinity.
The Church is like a hinge between the Trinity and Humanity. In this photograph:
The three links on one side of the hinge represent the Father, Son and Holy Spirit.
The two links on the other represent two aspects of humanity, i.e., its joys and sorrows.
The pin represents the Church which relates both with God and Humanity.
God wants his family
to help humanity
into the unity
of the Trinity
