How to hang an oil painting

Step One:

If it's an oil, pastel or acrylic painting, don't cover with glass. Watercolors and
prints may be covered before hung

Step 2

Place the painting in a cool, well-lighted spot, but not near a heat register nor in direct sunlight so the painting fades. Put the painting in an area where it will be highlighted and add to the atmosphere of the room.

Step 3

At the bottom of the frame install angle brackets. That will help the picture stabilize and provide extra support. Let the painting lean forward slightly rather than right up against the wall to prevent dirt and dust accumulation. It also improves the look and makes it appear professional. In addition it avoids the problem of having a painting that is hung crooked that folks want to straighten when they see it.
