WRITE THE DIARY A MAIN CHARACTER MIGHT HAVE WRITTEN. Imagine you are a character in your book. Write a diary for a few days or weeks as she or he would have done. You need to have at least 7 entries.
CONVERT A BOOK INTO A PUPPET SHOW. Make simple puppets (stick puppets, finger puppets, sock puppets, paper bag puppets, and so on) or complex puppets (marionettes) and present the story.
FASHION A MOBILE FROM ITEMS RELATED TO A STORY. The mobiles add color and movement to a room. Items must represent main characters, main events, themes within the book, and so on. Create a “key” to explain each item. Display them in the library, the cafeteria, the multipurpose room, or in the hallway.
INVENT WORD GAMES FOR YOUR BOOK. Create crossword puzzles, word games (like Memory), and acrostics incorporating unfamiliar vocabulary words, characters, main events and settings. Create 3 different games and answer keys. Distribute to the class.
DESIGN A COMIC STRIP/BOOK RETELLING MAJOR EVENTS IN THE STORY. Tell the story of the novel as a comic book. Include at least 10 “pictures” with dialogue bubbles.
