Hubes is a dedicated, founding member of the Foto Geek organization (we are not currently affiliated with any other geeks nor do we enjoy organizing with them - unless of course they take cool pictures or have neat gear). At present, he is still stationed in Dalian, a temperate and ugly port city of northeast China, the birthplace of the foto geeks (note the random capitalization). Recent photographic adventures have included "aggressive bird-watching/stalking" with resident Jinshitan naturist, Tom Beeke. Such endeavours have resulted in additions to my gear, much to the chagrin of Hubes' wife(but of course somewhat ameliorated with phrases of, "Don't worry, it'll make money"). (Awesome portrait courtesy of Blake) Updates: October 6, 2009: It's really no excuse to let things like getting married, moving, starting a new job, doing a master's degree to get in the way of photography! But inevitably such events take hold and eat up what precious time we have. So what's in the works? -The Tour De Dandong photos (still!) -Nikon D200 long-term user report -Think Tank Streetwalker Harddrive Backpack review -The UN Bad Ass Sichuan Tour photos -Rant: The end of the amateur SLR user July 24, 2009: Well, it's been a while since the Foto Geeks have gone on assignment as we have been afflicted by numerous changes; I have picked up a new gear bag and a review will be forthcoming shortly. Processing the Tour De Dandong continues and if all goes well, it may very well be my first ever publication. Stay tuned! May 1, 2009: Just returned from assignment on the "Tour De Dandong" and am processing around 1,300 RAW images - I am posting my gear wishlist based on what I think I will need to continue my favourite sort of shooting in the time to come. Mar 23, 2009: Be sure to have a look at my interview with Holly McRann for our current assignment on "Hands". Hubes' favourite photography and gear websites: Bjorn Rorslett - Nikon lens guru and nature photographer; has interest into macro and non-visible light spectrum photography bythom.com - Nikon reviewer, expert and technical guru; sound, practical advice for the beginning and intermediate photographer Cambridge in Colour - Digital photography tutorials; essential for the beginner, and always useful for the intermediate image manipulator. Photography in Malaysia - a huge, gearhead database site with lots of obscure knowledge; very useful when purchasing used gear The Luminous Landscape - Michael Reichmann's commercial site with his articles on photography and gear; some consider him arrogant while others just get him. | Hubes' latest work: Albums are hosted at: http://picasaweb.google.com/neuronengine What's on my desktop these days?
