Winner: Liv Redpath ’14 as Rose Maybud in Ruddigore Liv Redpath’s Rose Maybud was amusingly self-centered and cute, executing the rigorous singing of Gilbert and Sullivan while presenting a pretty white-bread role in an engaging way that didn’t fade away in the mix of wild supporting characters. Runner-Up: Morgan Henry ’14 as Leading Lady in Disney Revue Morgan Henry portrayed the vain, vapid Leading Lady who falls in love with the inexperienced Leading Man with a sense of innocence and farce that brought out the self-referential style of the show as a whole. Other Nominees: Julia Cavallaro as Sagesse/Discorde in Les Plaisirs de la Paix Julia Cavallaro played two allegorical figures, Wisdom and Discord, and was able to infuse both with Baroque stylization and a shockingly high level of singing. Even in this high-level group of singers Cavallaro was overqualified.Madison Greer ’14 as Roxie Hart in Chicago Madison Greer played the murderess/vaudevillian Roxie Hart with a vital skill for the intense choreography as well as a very fun feigned innocence.Megan O’Keefe ’11 as Velma Kelly in Chicago Megan O’Keefe’s Velma Kelly, the sexy incarcerated murderess, was energetic and passionate as well as refreshingly flippant. |
