Observations

The Observations Form

According to the Smithsonian Institute's "Telling the Stories the Past Tells Us," one way to creating a story environment in the classroom is by setting up the classroom to record story thinking. For example, they suggest to hang up large sheets of paper around the room that students can use to record thoughts while they are working on the story. If we translate this suggestion to the Google Sites environment and the possibility for collaborative learning, students can use this "Observations" form to submit these thoughts, which will accumulate in the "Observations List" for all to see and share.

Suggestions also address "observations" taking practices as follows:
  1. Ask students to record physical descriptions of characters as they examine sources and picture the character in their imagination.
  2. Ask students to react to the stories' emotional content. For example: how did students feel at different points, etc.
  3. My suggestion is to ask students to generate observations for important events, characters, and other points of interest they consider worthy  focusing on.
