The Doctor Who Review

Welcome to The Doctor Who Review.

The aim of The Doctor Who Review is to look at and give opinions on old and new episodes, books and magazines and...well...just about everything Doctor Who.

Also available will be directions, descriptions and photos of locations used in the first 26 years of production.

We would like your help, so please read on.

This is only the beginning, but we shall go on.........sorry, I had to do that.

If you want to know how to find the Upper Boat Studios, Click Here, Vworp Vworp

If you intend to holiday or have a day out in North Wales, then you will find photos and descriptions of The Abominable Snowmen and The Five Doctors locations here shortly.

But for now please peruse these maps to help you find the places. If you love the great outdoors, you wont be disappointed:

1: This is where much of the exterior filming took place for The Abominable Snowmen, Nant Ffrancon Pass. Take the minor road from Llyn Ogwen off the A5. Go over the cattle grid and you can't help but see the glorious views of the Himalayas.

2: Now take a look at Plas Brondanw. The gardens of Clough Williams-Ellis's home is where Richard Hurndall was captured by that misguided git Borusa in The Five Doctors. Follow the path opposite the house and you will find the "Eye of Orion" folly.

3: Click here to see one of the most beutiful places in the country. Oh, yes, it's more locations from The Five Doctors.

The Mission Should You Decide...N0, wait...wrong show.

Isn't this a great time to be a fan of the best programme in the world? Seeing the great work that comes from the upper Boat Studios has spurred us on to do something ourselves.

For me, the man of the operation, when I've watched new episodes of Doctor Who since it's long overdue return, a few questions always come to mind. I then answer these posers when the old brain has a few moments of spare processing power ("not very often then" I hear the wife cry). You don't need to know this, but these musings usually occur to me whilst walking the dog at night or sitting on the toilet (I did warn you that you really didn't need to know this, didn't I?).

But the reason for sharing these private moments with you however, is that this is the chosen path we have taken for producing reviews within these pages. A breakdown of the main questions I ask myself.

So that's where you come in. Please put your own comments to the questions below. Throw out the ones you don't like, add your own or just send your views. Bearing in mind Doctor Who is a family show of course. Send Your Reviews Here

So, here are what I've reduced my internal ponderings down to. They are neither gospel nor unchanging, just a starting point:

  1. How does the episode compare to it's comparative one from previous years (e.g. The Doctor light story/Season finale)?

  2. How does the episode compare to stories from the original run (Seasons 1-26)?

  3. Was it a well written/structured episode/story?

  4. Was there a good balance of humour, horror and haction...er...action?

  5. What was the pacing of the episode like?

  6. What were the performances of the regular, guest and extra cast members like?

  7. Were the effects good, great, OK or a bit of Myrka?

  8. What was the music like? Was it good and was it mixed well (in other words, could you hear what was said)?

  9. Will the episode be enjoyed/appreciated more by the older or newer, or indeed by both sets of fans equally (God! I hate splitting us up, I reckon a fan is a fan is a fan)?

  10. Give it a score out of 10.
