How to host a book party:

1. Set a date with me
2. Invite 10 or more people to your home
3. Have comfortable seating –
chairs, couch, pillows on the floor
4. I’ll present the books that I think will interest your group and read some of the stories
5. Everyone will have time to browse, ask questions, and purchase books to take home
6. Everyone will have time to talk and have fun

You receive a rebate of 10% of the total of the books sold in book credit, i.e.:

  • $250 sale gives you a $25 book credit
  • $350 sale gives you a $35 book credit
  • $450 sale gives you a $45 book credit
Our first priority is quality content, then bargain price. Our goal is to keep the price of books in the $3.00 - $7.99 range with no books over $8.00.

We don’t have a catalogue. What you see at a party is what you get. Sometimes, we may be able to reorder an item if we sell out, but all of the books that we carry have a limited supply and may no longer be available at a bargain price.

Books make great friends. Our home and Larry’s classroom are filled to overflowing with books and bookcases. When our children were young, I read to them 4-6 hours over the period of a day. The people in those books became our friends. They helped us learn how roads were built, how people made decisions about how to live their lives, and how people coped with the things that happened to them. History came alive through stories. Poems helped to capture the essence of experiences. Non-fiction books helped us to learn facts about nature and other things. Stories expanded our world.

You may have tangible wealth untold;
Caskets of jewels and coffers of gold.
Richer than I you can never be --
I had a Mother who read to me.

from The Reading Mother –Strickland Gillilan

 A little history…

Many years ago, the Laynes moved to Victoria and started The Children’s Book Fair selling thousands of books to parents and children through book fairs at schools.Larry carted 30+ boxes of books to schools in all three districts. He read to the classes and then the children and parents bought books after school. Meanwhile, Marty was at home with their three children and read all of the books before they were sold in the book fair. Larry also sold hard cover books to school libraries. Eventually, School District 61 hired Larry to be a school librarian and a classroom teacher. We slowly phased out our business. Larry continued to read stories to the children in his classroom. Marty was home with the children who now numbered four and read to them many hours a day as part of their homeschooling curriculum.
