Interpreting Your Dreams Biblically

Jan. 31, 2008

Gail Nobles

Some people strongly believe in Astrology, numbers, and dreams. Many people believe in what they dream especially.  Some people buy dream books to interpret their dreams. The best way that you can interpret your dreams is to use your Bible.

• If you are dreaming that you are going up, you know that means good because of
    heaven.
• If you are dreaming that you are going down, that is a sign of decreasing. You might
   think of hell.
• When you dream of snakes, you may think of enemies. Do you remember the serpent
that was in the garden of Eden? He was made to go on his belly (Gen.3:14).
•  If you dream of Christ, you know that dream would be a good sign. Christ is all about
   what is good and true.
•  It is written in some dream books that to dream about a vine is one of the most
fortunate dreams. In the Bible, Jesus said, “ I am the vine, ye are the branches: He that
abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit:…(St. John 15:5).”
•  It is said that to dream of precious stones could mean abundance. In the Bible, Jesus
said, “To him that overcometh will I give to eat of the hidden manna, and will give him
a white stone, and in the stone a new name written, which no man knoweth saving he
   that receiveth it (Rev. 2:17).”

 Dreaming of Colors

Do you ever dream about a particular color? You might find the meaning of the colors you dream in the Bible.

• White is a wonderful color to dream. White represents purity. In Rev.15:6, angels
are clothed in pure and white linen. There are more places in the Bible where the
    color white is mentioned.
• Purple is another color that is mentioned in the Bible. The robe placed upon Jesus was
Purple (Mark 15:17, 20). Purple means royalty.
• Black does not seem to be a good color to dream about. You might think of darkness,
sin, death, and evil as you read the Bible.
• The Bible mentions a red (Isaiah 2:18). “Come now, and let us reason together, saith the
Lord: though your sins be as scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they be red
as crimson, they shall be as wool.
• Gray is used to describe the hair of the elderly (Gen. 42:38).

The History of Dreams in Ancient Times

In ancient times, people had dreams. God communicated with men through dreams to send his messages.

• The Lord said, “Hear now my words: If there be a prophet among you, I the Lord will
Make myself known unto him in a vision, and will speak unto him in a dream (Num.
   12:6).”
• Elihu believed that God spoke through dreams (Job 33:14-15).
• An angel appeared to Joseph in a dream ( St. Matt. 1:20).
•  King Nebuchadnezzar dreamed dreams (Daniel 2:1).
•  The Lord spoke to Jacob in a dream (Genesis 28:12-18). His dream of a ladder is a
    famous dream.
•  Joseph was a dreamer who told his dreams to his brothers. His brothers hated him
   (Genesis 37: 3-11).
•  Pharaoh dreamed (Genesis 41:1).

True and Untrue Dreams

Not all dreams are true. Some dreams do not mean anything. Some dreams are just images of things that we have seen during the day or before we go to bed at night. The Bible warns us about false dreams of a dreamer.

• (Deut. 13:1 ) If there arise among you a prophet, or a dreamer of dreams, and giveth
unto thee a sign or a wonder, (v2) And the sign or the wonder come to pass, whereof
he spake unto thee, saying, Let us go after other gods, which thou hast not known, and
let us serve them; (v3) Thou shalt not hearken unto the words of that prophet.

You will recognize a true dream, and you will know when the Lord is speaking to you.

• (Num 12:6) And he said, Hear now my words: If there be a prophet among you, I the
Lord will make myself known unto him in a vision, and will speak unto him in a dream.
   (v8) With him will I speak mouth to mouth, even apparently, and not in dark speeches;
and the similitude of the Lord shall he behold: wherefore then were ye not afraid to
   speak against my servant Moses?

Astrology

Astrology is the study of the sun, moon, planets, and stars. In the book of Daniel, you will find the word astrologers. (Daniel 1:20) And in all matters of wisdom and understanding, that the king inquired of them, he found them ten times better than all the magicians and astrologers that were in all his realm.

In the Bible, there were sorcerers, wise men, and soothsayers along with these astrologers. (Daniel 2:2) Then the king commanded to call the magicians, and the astrologers, and the sorcerers, and the Chaldeans, for to shew the king his dreams. So they came and stood before the king. (10) The Chaldeans answered before the king, and said, there is not a man upon the earth that can shew the king's matter: therefore there is no king, lord, nor ruler, that asked such things at any magician, or astrologer, or Chaldean. (27) Daniel answered in the presence of the king, and said, The secret which the king hath demanded cannot the wise men, the astrologers, the magicians, the soothsayers, shew unto the King; (28) But there is a God in heaven that revealeth secrets, and maketh known to the king Nebuchadnezzar what shall be in the latter days. Thy dream, and the visions of thy head upon thy bed, are these;...

The book of Matthew mentions wise men. They saw the star of the baby Jesus (Matt.2:7) Then Herod, when he had privily called the wise men, inquired of them diligently what time the star appeared. (9) When they had heard the king, they departed; and, lo, the star, which they saw in the east, went before them, till it came and stood over where the young child was.

Believers know that God rules the world. They know to put their trust in God and not astrologers, stars, the moon, sorcerers, and soothsayers. It is written in the first commandment, "Thou shalt have no other gods before me."

(Deut.18:10-13) There shall not be found among you any one that maketh his son or his daughter to pass through the fire, or that useth divination, or an observer of times, or an enchanter, or a witch, (11) Or a charmer, or a consulter with familiar spirits, or a wizard, or a necromancer. (12) For all that do these things are an abonimation unto the Lord: and because of these abominations the Lord thy God doth drive them out from before thee. (13) Thou shalt be perfect with the Lord they God.

God and Your Body

Sometimes people crave for non-foods like ice, baking soda, and clay. I think it could be a sign of iron deficiency. My iron has been low before, and I have had low blood. I craved for ice. I take a multi-vitamin with iron.

I heard the spirit of the Lord talking to me in my mind one night. The Bible said that the body is God's temple (1 Corithians 6:19). He told me that I needed to eat plenty of fruits and vegetables. The Lord also said that I needed vitamins and minerals. I'm not crazy about fruits bought from the store. Sometimes fruit not fresh from the trees do not taste as good. I'm not an apple eater, but the Lord told me to eat plenty of apples and oranges. I love vegetables, but still I needed to eat more fruit. The last thing God told me to do is to drink plenty of fluids. The Lord is right. I have sinus and allergy and sometimes I get really thirsty.
