F.A.Q.

Q.  What paints do you use?

A.  The Cat's Meow uses only water-based cosmetic/theatrical quality face paints made by Mehron (Paradise), Wolfe Brothers, Snazaroo, Kryolan,  and Ben Nye, Snazaroo Glitter and Starblend Powders. All of these 'face paints' and make up powders are actually high end cosmetics and comply with FDA regulations.  They easily wash off with water and mild soap too!

I use ‘one use’ disposable applicators for any applied lip products.  I use cosmetic lipsticks/gloss/creams/lip glitter if the design calls for coloring on the lip area.

Here is some more Info on each type of Face Paint I use:

Mehron's 'Paradise':
A new makeup line with truly distinctive base ingredients.

Aloe and chamomile combine to make Paradise Makeup safe and gentle to the skin.

Glycerin, avocado oil and cocoa butter provide rich, vibrant, color saturated coverage.
It washes off easily with just soap and water.   No special removers are needed.

Wolfe Brothers:

Wolfe Brothers highly-pigmented Hydro color line of professional water-based makeup has the best coverage and brightest black light colors in the business.  Due to the high pigmentation levels, I usually do not use Wolfe on children, as it can be harder to wash off.

SNAZAROO:

SNAZAROO is revolutionizing face painting by providing the world's safest Face Painting product.  Not only do their products meet all FDA and European safety guidelines, but they also carry a "child toy safety rating."  SNAZAROO products apply easily with water and a brush or sponge.

Why Use Cosmetic Quality Face Paints (Makeup)?

For example, some painters use acrylics or tempera paint and it seems ok.

The bottom line is one should not use any paint on the face or skin that does not have a FDA ingredient approval and is regulated as a cosmetic good, SAFE to use on skin, especially the face.  And PLEASE do not use markers, even the 'non toxic' easy wash up kind!

About Glitter Tattoos

Glitter Tattoos consist of:

§  Pros-Aide Adhesive - an Acrylic adhesive that is safe for use on the skin – Does not contain latex

§  Cosmetic quality, polyester fine glitter (it's safe for use near the eyes and on the face too)

To remove a Glitter Tattoo, apply Rubbing Alcohol (99% Isopropyl Alcohol)

I often highlight face painting designs with a glitter gel, that adds even more dimension to the designs.
