Handless Herschel loves Yelena.  Yelena has eyes for mysterious Mister Gimmel, a man of diminutive stature who's attached himself to Herschel.  Can Herschel win the girl?  Romance, voodoo, and ancient Jewish mystic arts collide in this story of the first Jewish immigrant superhero, his missing appendage, and his mysterious love.

About The Cardboard Box Collaborative. . .

"The living word has a soul of which the written word is properly no more than an image."
- Sophocles

[-] We here at CBC know there is great worth producing Chekhov, Shakespeare, Williams, Moliere. How else can we continue our journey if we forget where we've traveled from? But no matter how much these old texts resonate in current times, they are still the voices of a history long past. Timeless words, but not the words of our time. And it's the words of our time that we here at CBC seek.

[-] We also recognize the genius of Shepard, Albee, Churchill and all of the established, living voices who have become lifelong guides to us. But even these living artists are the voices of the older generations - where they speak from is a culture and influence of decades past. Words of our time, but from the elder voices of our time. It's the new words of our time that we seek.

[-]
CBC is dedicated to the emerging voices of the nation. These voices are not only of this time, but these voices also carry the weight of the times to come. They hold the power to guide our culture and the theatre arts in a new, daring direction. In this time where the country is divided and all of us are examining ourselves to find what we believe in, it's our mission to ensure the voices of young artists are heard, considered, and part of the changes that will come.

[-] And, in times of such widespread reflection, we also believe the power of one voice is often strongest among the chorus it sounds with. Theatre was born as an art of community, and we believe that in its creation as well as its execution theatre should never be a solitary art. There is no reason that the act of writing a play must be a solitary process for the writer, that the direction of a play should be the relationship of a leader to the lead, and that the actor's voice should be heard only after his audition and even then only sound to speak the words of the play that he's given.

[-] A chorus of new ideas and artistic minds throughout the theatrical process, this is who we are.

[-] Welcome to The Cardboard Box Collaborative!
