the story

the first, recent attempt at an on campus nightclub came in the form of xanadu, originally opening in january 2007.  plagued with a stark venue, a lack of funding, and logistical and operational issues, xanadu experienced limited success.  however, it was successful in proving to the college that there was a demand for a student run bar/nightclub.

plans to reevaluate, reorganize, and relaunch as the bunker began to form in late spring 2007. with the support of ccal, the sga, and the finance committee, the bunker experienced a swift rebirth come fall 2007.  a deliberate decision was made by the co-founders/co-presidents, glenn bickley ‘08 and dave campbell ‘09 to utilize the club’s newfound resources to completely renovate the freeman hamlin space, install a legitimate bar, purchase lighting and sound equipment, and install a projector system.  while construction went longer than expected, the rewards were worth the wait.

with its freshly painted navy blue and light grey walls, mounted wood countertops, and an invigorating sound/light system the bunker made its grand début in january 2008 to the middlebury campus.  sticking to a friday night schedule, the bunker had capacity crowds every night that it opened.  highlight parties included carpejterm, guytalk (girltalk after party), viva la jterm featuring middlebury band larson, bunkerlove (valentine’s day), and bunkyear (leap year).

the bunker is now preparing to open up for its inaugural fall semester – fall 2008.  stay tuned for new improvements, theme parties, promotional gear, co-sponsored events, and some classic bunking.

see you there.
