"Between the idea and the reality..."

In this era of mass media, mass consumption, and mass extinction, the dreams in our psyches are often dissected, diluted, and sold back to us in shimmering packages.

Yet, behind the glittering facades of the dream palaces of civilization there lies an untamed wilderness, a place rich in spirit that the monolithic cities of the culture of expansion cannot destroy.

Just as life flourishes in cracks in the cement, the spirit remains alive amidst the shadows of the electric night.

Theatre is a way to touch something buried within you; an attempt to exchange what we cannot express as we pass quickly on the streets, encased in our cars, or sitting across from each other at a café, each lost in our separate mental worlds.

None of us really know each other, even as we look at everyone passing by with curiosity and wonder: what is their experience of life? What do they feel deeply? What is it they truly know?

Are you aware that we are living during the sixth mass extinction episode in the life of this planet?

Do you know that the atoms that make us up, and everything we see, are mostly empty space?

Are you bored with the culture of ideas and things that is breaking down even as it grows like a cancer?

Do you feel the emptiness and futility of fighting against everything you perceive to be wrong, even in your own thoughts?

Are you overcome with boredom and despair?

Are you desperate for something to change?

Are you more than desperate?

Do you have something inside that you feel so deeply about you are afraid to speak it aloud for fear of what others might think?

Or a feeling at the core of your being that hasn’t found its way into words?

What would it take for you to share it?

Theatre of Dreams and Visions is a collection of streams of consciousness that lie beyond and beneath the cultural fantasy; words from the wilderness. Perhaps something on this site will speak to your innermost sense of what is truly real, breaking through the silent scream of contemporary society, or the not so silent scream.

And then, for a moment amidst the chaotic whirlpool of our lives, we can share a stolen moment of mutual understanding, meet in the glare of darkness at a clandestine theatre or the wild patch of forest still growing at the edge of town. Exchange whispers of dreams, expand our sense of what is possible, and begin to break free of what we have been taught is true.
