What Designs Me...

And He said...

Architecture is the music in space, as it were a frozen music.

                                                                                              - Friedrich Schelling

First Year Projects

And the design plane takes off... Being totally ignorant about all the complications and constraints of architectural structures in the first year, designing for us was like painting in air.

The only parameter that satisfied our souls was the aesthetic appeal of our designs, and things like structural stability, economic viability etc were not even thought of.

In short, we let our fantasies rule, and danced to the whims of our unchained creativity..... Have a look on the first year assignments....

1. The Information Kiosk, Technology  Book Fair,  Kharagpur  (My first project...)

Design Concept : A guided entrance to the Book Fair; A separate Food Court; Curvy display panels, An independent Information Kiosk; A phone booth, and an External Service Room.

2. The Graphics and visual composition poster using basic geometrical shapes.

Design Concept: Use of basic geometric shapes to create a composition; Use of different tints and shades of colours; Effect of colour mixing.

3.The Energy Conservation poster (GVC Time Problem).

Design Concept: Use of the concept of limited and unlimited fuel glass-hours; Symbolic use of colours like black, green and red.

4. The Picnic Shelter (Basic Design Problem)

Design Concept: A Picnic Shelter for 30 people; Theme derived from a Picnic Basket; A wooden Bridge forming  the entry; A sand pit for Children, emulating the plan of the structure itself.

 5. The Farmhouse for a young Couple.

Design Constraint-: To use a single 3d geometric shape in the entire model. This model is based on the pyramidal shape.

As they say, ignorance is a bliss. and so it was, until we entered our next semesters of B. Arch. But one thing is for sure, designing with a lot of constraints is much more fun than designing castles in the air, quite literally.
