QUETZALCOATL DANZA CEREMONY 2012

Groupo Tezkatlipoka invites all danza groups, danzantes, and community to celebrate Quetzalcoatl together this year.  Tezkatlipoka has been hosting this beautiful ceremony for more than 15 years. Quetzalcoatl is an important time to honor the highest form of knowledge and wisdom that our ancestors left us through the expression of the Arts and our Culture.  Please note the new location this year.   

DATE:    Saturday, May 19, 2012  
LOCATION:   Downtown College Prep School (DCP) at 1460 The Alameda, San Jose 95126. – (Grassy Field)
TIME:  Altars 9:00am * Aztec Dance 11:00--3:00pm  * Dinner 3:00-5:00pm. *

  • SUNRISE BLESSING:
Each year, members and friends of Tezkatlipoka hold a small/ intimate Sunrise blessing with copal incense, flowers, and prayers at the Quetzalcoatl statue at the Cesar Chavez Plaza in downtown San Jose. Danzantes are welcome to join us if they wish between 5:20-5:45. Sunrise blessing is at 5:35 am on Sat. May 19.
  • DINNER:              
We have hired a Tacquera to serve dinner this year.  If you can, please let us know how many are coming from your group so we can let the Tacquera know how much food to prepare ahead in order to make sure we have enough to go around for everyone. Our Tacquera lady will arrive towards the end of the ceremony to set up between 2:30p-3:00. Dancers  who have danced during the Quetzalcoatl ceremony will be given 1st priority in line, all others are more than welcome to share any leftover food and drink with us after all Danzantes have gotten their plate of food first. Please help us by letting your visitors know our desire to make sure that all of our danzante guests are taken care of first. (We will hand stamp dancers to go first in line. )
  • VENDORS:         
 Vendors selling arts/ crafts are welcome and can set up their tables/ blankets/ booths for FREE, but vendors must supply their own blankets/tables/ canopies, etc. We will not provide booths or tables and space is first come, first serve. If you have any question, please call David.
  • DRUMS:              
Several drums will be provided, but please call David if you would like to bring one or for more info.
  • KID GAMES:       
In addition to our ceremony, DCP school will be co-hosting their annual end-of-school year Student Carnival around the school yard perimeters where local students, family, friends and the public will be participating throughout the day.  (Please make sure you have someone to supervise your children for their own safety.)

  • PARKING:           
  • There is a school parking lot or plenty of free street parking- there will be a lot of people coming for both the ceremony and the student carnival, so we suggest to arrive early and carpool.

Please- This is a Non-Drug/ Non- Alcohol Event. 
NO Drugs/ NO Alcohol on School Premises/ Parking lots. There will be security volunteers walking the school grounds to monitor.

Kuauhtemok Danza Ceremony 2012

Tezkatlipoka is once again hosting a dance ceremony in honor of the last great Mexica leader and warrior, Kuauhtemok on Thursday, February 23 from 7:00---9:30 pm at the historic ballroom salon of the San Jose Woman's Club located at 75 South 11th Street, San Jose CA 95112.  All danzantes and the community is invited to join us on this special evening to offer our sacred dances, drum and prayers. Doors open at 6:00pm for dancers to get ready. 7:00pm for general community. Light refreshments and food will be shared right after the ceremony. Tezkatlipoka will be hosting an Aztec Dance Ceremony in honor of Kuahtemok on Wednesday, February 23, 2011 from 7:30-9:30 p.m. at Washington United Youth Center GYM located 921 North 1st Street, San Jose, CA (Downtown). Platica/ Lecture Talk on Kuahtemok & Aztec Calendar - Sun. 2/20 10a--3:30pm

Tezkatlipoka is organizing a platica/ lecture talk in honor of Kuahtemok to prepare for the ceremonia and a special presentation on the Aztec Calendar Count System at Escuela Popular High School Cafeteria on 149 N. White Road, San Jose 95127 from 10am--3:30 pm. Lecture will be presented by Ruben Ochoa from Los Angeles, CA. Please RSVP ASAP so we know how much food/ refreshments to plan for. Collabrative Piece for MLK 31st Annual Celebration Luncheon

Quetzalcoatl- Ceremonia Danza Azteca on May 15th!

Groupo Tezkatlipoka invites the danza community to celebrate Quetzalcoatl at the beautiful Hellyer park in San Jose.

After two years of reflection and retransformation, Tezkatlipoka hopes to carry this ceremony to honor the meaning of Quetzalcoatl with special prayers of danza. Drums will be provided. Please do not bring extra drums.
This is a green event. Please bring your own regular plates, cups and utensils.

In keeping with the intent of this traditional ceremony, please NO alcohol or drugs. And please, NO puestos/ stands/transactions of any kind as the County park prohibits any kind of merchandising sales without special permits.

SJSU Spartapalooza Wellness Festival- Check us out!

As part of our committment to health & well-being and community service, Tezkatlipoka will be dancing this coming Tuesday, March 23 at SJSU Spartapalooza Wellness Festival and will kick-off the event 10 am in the Student Union Ballroom. The event is free and will feature a day of health activities and resources. Come join the fun!
