This is my 4th fast in 10 years. The first was 7, the second was 10, the third was 14. This one will go on until I feel its done, unless I drop to 139, or go below 10% body fat, or drop below 50% water, or muscles go below 110. Muscles, protein actually, is used up for the first 3-4 days until the body switches all systems over to ketosis, which is the scientific term for when the body relys 100% of energy on only fat stored on you. So there should be a quick drops in muscles for a bit, then a stabilization of that to a much slower drop, and then fat should then slowly be used up. Once past about 10 days the body begins removing most foreign objects in it, toxins, some tumors and arthritis, artifical things consumed, and so forth, so that many diseases and problems can be reduced or stopped just by fasting a couple weeks, as has happened to me with every fast permanently. By the 14th day the body begins healing its own organs and cells begin deep repairing. The only real 'pseudo hunger feeling' happens from day 1-3 but thats just habit of eating its not real hunger, and your stomach churning is just habit not your body telling you to eat, just setting off a mental timer. Any pains like muscles hurting or headache and stomach problems happens around day 3-4 because thats when the body is moving into ketosis, but also sucking out many loose toxins suddenly, and while theyre in your bloodstream and preparing to be urinated out, they can cause pains, then it stops, the hunger stops, and from day 5-6 theres no pains or hunger, theres just a 'slow peace' as your metabolism is accepting ketosis fully, so that your rhythm matches your individual internal clock, something foods change the 'speed' of. The only problem in the days which pass would be boredom perhaps since your not going to be doing anything too active outside. I would be stunned, in reading 1000s of fasting stories online, to see one in where the person wasnt totally satisfied after a 14 dat fast, since it does seem to cure and resolve so many things inside your body and mind.
THE CONCLUSION: i ended up fasting for 28 days on the water, followed by some days on just coconut water to get my electrolytes up first before taking in foods, the coconut water within 3 days put my 'muscle' back up to only 2 pounds below my pre-fast muscle weight since i was biking during/after the fast.
I stopped charting my fast before the 28 days because i reached a point where i didnt want to get on the computer; i just wanted to be outside more and spend time reflecting on things and not worry about anything analytical. There is definitely another shift in the body, moreso the mind, after around the 21st day. In the 2x days the mind really begins cleaning itself out and i felt more 'in my mind' as a being than an actual body, it was quite serene and at the same time intense, and this was the part i will miss most of the fast.
In the end, i had zero side effects of this fast, and only good things, as i have with the previous fasts. again, as in SO many things i have done in life; most people are know-it-alls on things theyve never done, people theyve never met, places theyve never been, and for all the myths on fasting, it only reinforces my belief and life-pattern that to do is to know. i look forward to my next fast as one would look forward to their next vacation. |
