SHALOM!

It is about 15 minutes past noon as we queue up for our lunch at the buffet line.

We just did Hezekiah's tunnel.

[Above: Model which diagrams the Hezekiah tunnel network.]

This tunnel was originally Jebusite and linked Gihon spring (the water supply outside the walls originally) to the city of Jerusalem. King david used the original Jebusite tunnels to penetrate the city which he then conquered and renamed the City of David.

King Hezekiah widened and diverted the tunnel so that the city would have a secure water source inspite of the babylonian siege

We spent about 30 minutes in the tunnel.  The tunnel is about my height at most places but we had to bend frequently. Single file as we waded through the waters. There was clear fresh flowing water in the tunnel which came up to our waist at certain places in the tunnel.

We enjoyed about 30 minutes of refreshing foot 'spa' through the tunnel. No amusement park ride in Universal Studios can match this as it was also dark in tunnel. Lit only by flashlights

Some guys joked at how short David was because of tunnel height!

[Above: Hezekiah's tunnel empties into the pool of Siloam, the main reservoir for ancient Jerusalem. Siloam has only now been partially re-discovered and the work is ongoing.]

This trip is
shiok man!

Tomorrow, we are doing an archaeological dig.

[Above: In the evening of 6 November 2008, we visited the Western Wall in Jerusalem and took a photograph with some Israeli female infantry who were also visiting the site.]

Best,

Terence
