Tracing the route of the Exodus, we arrived at the traditional site of Marrah where Moses healed the bitter waters. [Above: Map of the probable Exodus route taken by the Children of Israel as explained by Reda, our Coptic-Egyptian guide on 4 Nov 2008.] Next, we visited Elim where the date trees palms remain but not the wells. The guide and tour leader subscribe to the theory that the Red Sea crossing by the children of Israel was by the Suez arm of the Red Sea. However, I still lean in favour of the alternate crossing at the Aqaba arm of Red Sea, which theory was proposed by Bob Cornuke. This latter theory places Sinai in Arabia which is where the apostle, Paul sites Mt Sinai as well in his epistles. Whatever the true site of Mt Sinai and the Red Sea crossing, I am looking forward to tonight's past midnight ascent of the traditional Mt Sinai overlooking St Catherine monastery. We will do it under the bright moonlight. Once at the top, I can email and make the corny joke that Uncle Chris and I are now ABOVE the LAW. Afterall, the Law was given at Sinai. Shalom! |
