Life goals

After graduation I would like to have my own media center.  I want to work in a middle or high school.  I feel like I relate much better to these students, and I enjoy their literature much, much more.  I want to always stay up to date with technology and ideas for how I can incorporate it into the media center.  In the future, I would love to serve on some children’s literature committees, including the ones that choose award winners, such as the Georgia Book Awards.  I am also considering pursuing my PhD in Children’s Literature.

Program goals

When I began this program my goals were learning more about what a library media specialist’s job entails.  I knew the job had changed since I was in school, and I wanted to learn if it was the right fit for me.  I also wanted to learn more about the practical side of having a media program.  Finally, I knew I needed to refresh my technology skills, and learn how to use more of the Web 2.0 applications.

How the program prepared you for the future

Without a doubt, I believe that this program is one of the best programs available.  The courses were so well designed, and so applicable to real world situations, that it was very easy to understand what life would be like in a media center.  I feel very lucky to have been part of this program and cohort.  I feel very prepared to take on even the things I was worried about before, everything from research to handling the budget.

I would like to thank my mom for being so supportive throughout the program.  She listened to my struggles and triumphs, and I could not have done it with out her help.  I want to thank my husband for understanding when I had to work on homework or projects and couldn’t pay him the attention he deserves.  Also, I want to thank all of the professors who have been so understanding and helpful throughout the program.

Thank you all.
