INLAND VALLEY SPORTS and ARENA COMMISSION
Alert: A Rink Agreement Is Moving Forward!!

Aug. 18,                                                                                              Aug. 18, 2008

The Inland Valley Sports and Arena Commission has signed a Letter of Intent

with Murrieta property owners which will provide a site for a multi-purpose,

multi-use 4 rink sports arena facility for community based, regional and national

ice and inline (roller)hockey programs, skating sessions and several "dry-floor"

events including trade shows, dances and school graduations.

The Commission will enter into an L.L.C. agreement with the owners of a 26

acre site in Murrieta to provide the sports arena as an anchor attraction for the

remainder of the site development. The overall site plan includes a hotel,

restaurants and retail shops in the property at 40700 Los Alamos Rd.in Murrieta,

near the intersection of Monroe Ave.

When the conceptual site drawings are finalized, the project will begin the

entitlement process with our contracted site engineering firm Advanced

Development Solutions. The commission meanwhile is working on securing

funding for the facility with private funding, sponsorship sales and Non-Profit grants.

We are pleased to announce at long last that we have found property owners who

share our vision and we look forward to a long and very successful partnership in

this endeavor.  We will release more information when the agreement is finalized

and host a public forum within the next 2 months. The excitement begins!

Sincerely,

Bob Gibbons

NCTIMES - Letter to the Editor
3-12-08
SPORTS ARENA WOULD BE GOOD FOR THE COMMUNITY
I, too, attended both meetings for the Murrieta Parks and Recreation workshops. I was impressed by the way they were held. Everyone was given an opportunity to express what they wanted to see come to Murrieta. The need for a sports arena proved to be very much on everyone's mind. Those who understand the full purpose of this would embrace it with open arms. Yes, folks, hockey is a Southern California sport.

There are many here in our valley involved in coaching, playing and participating. We have some from our own community who have entered into professional hockey and figure skating. The revenue that could be generated and tournaments that could come to our community are endless. Yes, we could even have indoor soccer, rodeos, car shows, graduations, proms and business showcases, to name but a few. So, folks, let's look to something positive for our community. Let's not throw away the opportunity of a gift to our beautiful city. Let's take the challenge; let's step up to the net.

I say: Go hockey, go figure skating. Let's not make our families travel 50 to 100 miles to get ice time for their children. Let's see some community spirit. Let's have unity in the community. It's time for Murrieta to make its mark.

NCTIMES - OPINION LETTER PUBLISHED AGAINST ICE RINK
3-5-08
Link to the Opinion on NCTimes has been removed.

Basically the article that was published in print was against the idea of a Multi-Purpose Arena and Community center in Los Almos Sports Park. The writer of the entire page column (longer than a normal letter to the editor is allowed to be) is a horse owner and thinks that the only thing that the park should be used for is a No Fee Equestrian Center.   If you get the NCTimes... look up the opinion letter in your 3-5-08 newspaper.
It has since been removed...

Temecula Hockey Webmaster Types:
The Horse Owners who live by the open park space... well... they just don't want an Ice Rink or Multi-Purpose center put in the Park and want Taxpayers to build a No Fees Equestrian park. While this is great for them ... it doesn't do anything for the rest of us who live here.  These folks just don't see that the idea of an Arena that has been proposed is a total benefit to the youth of our community. I see this as a great opportunity and the Private/Public partnership that is proposed is something that is going to strengthen our community and when the rink is paid for the rink will belong to the city (OUR COMMUNITY) and will be here for generations to come.

If you have any questions regarding how this would fit our community... visit ICEOPLEX in Escondido or SDIA in San Diego during a Public Session... in our HOT Summer months... this would be the ultimate place to Cool down and refresh as a family!

SIDENOTE:
THIS CITY NEEDS A GREAT LOCAL PLACE TO HOST A PROM FOR OUR HIGH SCHOOL KIDS... THIS WOULD BE AN AWESOME VENUE AND AS PROPOSED WOULD HAVE MORE THAN ENOUGH ROOM TO DO THAT FOR ALL THE SENIORS IN MURRIETA AND TEMECULA!!

The one acronym that comes to mind about the Horse People against the rink ... is NIMBY. (Not In My Back Yard) The few against the many... the problem is the many have to voice opposition to the few in order to move the project forward... now is the time to stand up and be heard! I know people in this area who have been talking about an Ice Rink for over 10 years +... but few actually do anything more than drive to the other rinks and just secretly voice the desire among small circles of fellow residents.
Personally, I drive to MiraMesa 2-5 times each week for Hockey. I noticed that over the years all of the MiraMesa open space that surrounded the rink years ago... well it is now new housing neighborhoods. The rink is literally surrounded on all sides by homes!! The rink is thriving and the homes ... well they are being lived in.  Horse owners and city expansion ... well... we all know what happens to horses... they get moved to rural areas. The city of Murrieta and Temecula... while they were Rural... they have become cities and this land needs to be developed for what is to come in the future. Unfortunately that is more people... and fewer horses.

If you feel led... write a letter to the editor and express your opinion on getting an Ice Rink/Multi-purpose Arena Built up here.

CITY, RESIDENTS SHOULD SUPPORT SPORTS ARENA PLAN
3-1-08
The sports arena that was backed by community residents at a recent Murrieta parks workshop forum has been presented by the Inland Valley Sports and Arena Commission. This is a 501(c)3 nonprofit charitable organization dedicated to providing such amenities in the public interest.

The proposed facility is a four-rink facility with the two indoor ice rinks constructed in a manner that makes them convertible for a variety of nonskating events, including high school graduations.

The planned arena would be privately funded with the cost of construction amortized over an eight-year period using income from the facility ---- a projected $2 million per year ---- and grants, sponsorships and corporate naming rights.

This project calls for a public/private partnership with city, donated property, and construction and operation by the nonprofit commission. The community-based recreational sports and skating programs would provide the region with an affordable alternative to the current travel constraints that currently face hockey and skating enthusiasts.

This is the only park space proposal that offers to pay for itself while serving the needs of local and regional users. It would result in a gift to the city of Murrieta at the end of the eight-year term. This is a plan and not just an idea. It deserves the support of residents, the Parks Department and the Murrieta City Council.
