RULES

Rankers

Rankers aren't like medals - they're not there to be pretty, or for you to show off to other people. Play them. We're not going to jump down you're throat if you slack off for a month, but do keep up the posts.

We don't have posting reqs as such, but if you don't play a character enough the BoD will give you a warning. If you still fail to post, we'll either strip the character of their rank or kill them off.

Pets

Telgar is in the North. Firelizards and Whers are not readily available. Be sensible. You're character does NOT have nine firelizards and seven whers. I really wish that went without saying, but apparently... it doesn't. Also, while greens, blues and browns are more readily available, bronzes and golds will only be given to trusted players. And they're limited in number. ASK THE BoD BEFORE GIVING YOUR CHARACTER A METALLIC FLIT. This is in your best interests too - if you ask us first, we're more likely to say yes. ^_^ We will be keeping gold and bronze flits in a strict number to the number of chromatic flits in the Weyr. Firelizards are more likely to be associated with ranking characters. Think of it like owning a horse in our world. Rather expensive, and not the sort of thing everyone has.

***We currently have as many gold flits as we're willing to have. You may no longer create a charcter with a gold - they can be acquired through the game, though.***

Secondly, your Firelizard or Wher actually needs to be played - you can't just say your character has them, OR THEY WILL GO WILD. This is because fire lizards and whers are rather demanding creatures, and are likely to be close to their owners for a large portion of the time. They will interact with their owner, anyone their owner comes in contact with, and each other.

Most Whers will be work whers only. No character with a wher may become a candidate. Riders will not Impress whers. Basically, unless your charcter has a good reason to have a Wher, they won't.

Currently, we're capping the number of pets your charcter can own at 3, unless you have a really good reason.

Wherries and tunnelsnakes are NOT pets, but if you want something odd, talk to us. We only bite the heads off characters, not players.

Powerplaying

Probably THE most important rule, and one of the three we will, never, ever bend, for any reason. For those of you who don't know what power-playing is, it's making anyone else's character do anything. You can't have any character you don't own do anything, no matter how small. You can't make them smile, you can't make them blink, you can't even say they were breathing, unless you have permission from the character's owner.

The BoD will take complaints on Powerplaying seriously. You get two written warnings on this topic, and after that, steps will be taken.

Dragons

Dragons have grown since the 9th Pass written about in Anne McCaffrey's novels. If you want a dragon outside these parameters, write to us, and we'll consider it. We have a stretch limit, and a shrink limit. If you want the smallest dragon on Pern, write up a good sheet and we'll talk.

Current sizes are approximately as follows:

  • Golds: 40.75 to 45 ft (12.42 - 13.72 m)
  • Bronzes: 37.5 to 40.75 ft (11.43 - 12.42 m)
  • Browns: 32.25 - 37.5 ft (9.91 - 11.43 m)
  • Blues: 27 to 32.25 ft (8.23 - 9.91 m)
  • Greens: 21.75 to 27 ft (6.63 - 8.23m)

Also, those original five colours are ALL we will be accepting. No sport dragons. Send one in, and we will quite happily send them back to be re-written in a *normal* colour.

Secondly, which gender can ride which colour. We're pretty laid back about this. We won't be taking any male goldriders, or female bronzers, but for the others...

We're open. Just remember - female brownriders count as rank, and female blue riders are mini-rank. So play accordingly.

Female brownriders and goldriders are only available through Impression, and are approximately as rare.

Orientations and dragons:

  • Golds: heterosexual or bisexual females
  • Bronzes: heterosexual males. Bisexual bronzers are mini-rank above bronzers, gay bronzers... we'll talk. They'll be very, VERY rare.
  • Browns. hetero, bi or gay males or females. Gay male brownriders will count as rank. Straight female brownriders will count as HIGH rank.
  • Blues: hetero, bi or gay males and females. Remember female blueriders are mini-rank.
  • Greens: Hetero, bi or gay males or females. Straight green riders of either gender are mini-rank

Mary Sues and Marty Stus

Don't bother writing up a perfect character. We won't take them. We'll send 'em back and tell you to put in flaws. Your character is not a gold rider, AND a MasterHarper with a gold flit and perfect hair. So don't bother. We're running strictly on a no Mary-Sue's policy. This is another unbendable rule, so don't even bother.

Everyone has some flaws. Whether it's that they don't take anything seriously, that they're massively homophobic, or even just that they've got a temper, stick in those flaws! Flaws, flaws, flaws. We simply love flaws. Got it yet? Flaws.

Take a look at the FAQ for advice on fixing Mary Sues and a quick test you can run your character through.

Flaming

Another one of those rules I wish went without saying. And our final unbendable one. Flaming is the mistreatment of anyone in an OOC way. If you're angry with someone - wait before you reply. Flaming will be taken seriously by the BoD, and may lead to your being banned from the group.

Just remember - If you can't say something nice, don't say anything.

Intellectual Copyright

A character belongs to the person who wrote it. If you wish to use a charcter at another Weyr, ask them first. If you adopt a character here, the writer still owns it. If you bring a character belonging to someone else into Telgar, ask them first. You know the old saying "It's easier to beg forgiveness than ask permission"? It doesn't fly around here.

On a similar note - the dragonets that are written up for our Hatchings remain the property of Telgar BoD. If you want to play them somewhere else, ask us. There's a 99% chance we'll say yes. If not, we'll tell you why, and will see about reaching an agreement with you towards it.

Adult Material

We are an Adult Only group - if you want to join, you MUST be over 16. The lists will contain adult material.

On a similar theme - if your post contains graphic detail, anything that wouldn't get past the censors with something higher than an 'M' rating, please label it as such. Just a note at the top saying: Contains violence/graphic sex/etc...

Hatching Rules

If you want to change your candidates colour preference, or remove them from Standing for a Clutch, you need to let us know *before* the eggs are laid.

Dating

The Subject line for a Thread should contain the date it's taking place on. THis makes it easier to know *when* things are happening, as well as allowing people to backdate threads.

The format is [<pernese date>] SUBJECT

Confused about what the Pernese date is? Check the group calender, located on the history page..
