Questions Proposed by TEC-SIG Members -
FERPA/Security Related Questions - If Google was to host our email and at some point we needed to access a staff person's email messages, can this be done easily?
- What can Google do to ease the FERPA concerns that school districts have?
- Would signing up for a Google Apps for Education account and activating the Secure Socket Layer (SSL)--that encrypts web traffic--capabilities meet with FERPA laws?
- Some districts refuse to use G Apps because the Tos has age limits. Will Google publish an ToS that explicitly allows for students to use Google Apps Education edition?
- GoogleDocs Presentation has built-in chat tools to facilitate collaboration. Is this chat logged anywhere, and isn't it in violation of CIPA (http://www.fcc.gov/cgb/consumerfacts/cipa.html) ?
Functionality of GoogleApps - How long does it take for GoogleApps for Education account to be activated and approved for use? I've heard between 2-3 weeks to 5-6 weeks with little or no notification.
- Is there a way to check the properties to see if an email has been delivered, read, deleted?
- Why does activating the SSL slow down GMail so much? Are there plans to fix or improve that?
- Can teachers restrict settings in Gmail if they want to use it with their students?
- Does Google have guidelines mapped out for use of each educational app they offer?
- Google Apps for iPad... Is there an Google iPad application coming that allows us to create documents?
- We are thinking about using one domain for our school district but we notice that the quota for video is 10 GB. Is it possible to increase this for large districts, or schools in general?
Changing How We Work in Schools - Why did you and/or your organization embrace GoogleApps for Education?
- What were your organization's 3 greatest roadblocks to embracing GoogleApps, and how did you overcome them?
- What does having GoogleApps for Education mean for you, your colleagues and those you serve?
Miscellaneous Questions 1. Is there something more "classroom" ready from google earth? 2. Is there some way (other than what I know) for students to submit google earth projects? 3. What does Google Earth for campuses cost? Is it necessary or worth it? 4. Can you explain the limited capabilities of Google Sites, especially as it relates to videos, podcasts & presentations, as well as, the problematic way one has to go about setting up the pages and side bars. |
