PLM Updates - KIIT School of Management:
- Uday Kant Pandey (MBA-II, Technology Management student) was declared a winner at "Aakruti - The 3DVIA Design Contest" The following link also provides snap shots of his model (i.e., KIIT School of Management) and it is quite interesting: Uday's 3DVIA showcase
- In other developments, Financial Chronicle (dated 13 Feb 2011) reports from the sidelines of Aero India 2011 in Bangalore. The report titled “Dassault up against talent dearth in India” captures quotes from both Mr. Andy Kalambi and Mr. Philippe Forestier . DS India is actively promoting the work done at KIIT School of Management. Here is an excerpt: “Dassault, KIIT MBA programme aims at helping students develop hands‐on skills with modernized courseware before starting a career. The courseware includes necessary skills in manufacturing processes and methods that are prevalent in the industries across the world today. Companies hiring such graduates can expect to save time and cost from fundamental training,”......Andy Kalambi, President, South Asia, Dassault Systemes
Before long companies may want to see all that students have to showcase. Students using the PLM Center are urged to improve their skill sets. Please use the lab resources continuously as you have been doing.
Best wishes......K. Sahu

Read today’s ET headlines:
IT sector will employ more than a crore [Excerpts: …..Global tech giants such as IBM , Cisco , Dell, Microsoft , Intel , Oracle, HP and Google have their largest employee base outside the US , in India — tweaking code, developing software products, filing patents and now eying the local market. ……“We started with a narrow set of applications, development and maintenance services, and now do pretty much everything,’’ says Infosys Technologies’ co-founder & CEO, S Gopalakrishnan. And ‘everything’ includes aerospace design, re-doing global retail and pharma, maintaining and improving banking systems and systems integration for the manufacturing sector.]
Buoyant Indian IT industry rebounds but remains cautious [Excerpt: ……Buoyed by increased tech spending in the private and public sectors, the industry has been gearing up to offer its services in new areas such as engineering services and product development….]
Outsourcing, just a phone call away, is the norm now [Excerpts:….Both the technology and network outsourcing deals have been re-worked to cater to the galloping growth of Bharti. The telecom major has partnered with IBM even in 16 African countries –taking its outsourcing model global. That includes doing billing, customer relationship management, applications development, network expansion and keeping Bharti up-to-date with any new technology deployment…… Today, IBM manages around 100 technology vendors for Bharti.]
Change is our only hope in next decade (click to read)
Accordingly, changes are also happening in the education sector of India. But a revolution is needed. Some institutes have started opening up. Industry obligation to the institute now comes in the form of joint-enterprise for appropriate manpower development. Students will be able to exploit the inherent potential within such partnerships. Institutes not wanting to change may be left behind……………..Kaushik Sahu

Event Notification (received 2 Sep 2010):
Seminar title: Accelerate Market Driven Innovation “Parts to Partners – An Evolving Role for Indian Automotive Suppliers”
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
This event is being organized jointly by Maruti Suzuki India Limited, SAE (Society of Automotive Engineers) and Dassault Systèmes. The event is scheduled on Friday, September 10, 2010 (From 13:30 to 17:30 Hrs) @ The Leela Kempinski Hotel, Gurgaon (NCR) and the detailed agenda is enclosed here for your ready reference [See attached documet for details]. During this seminar, eminent persons from the manufacturing world will be sharing their thoughts and experiences with all of us. Speakers from Dassault Systèmes will present cutting-edge methods, applications and industry examples of Customer Centric NPD driven innovations. In addition, the workshop gives the opportunity for participants to learn how they can integrate business process management with cutting edge tools for design, engineering and manufacturing so that all automotive product development stakeholders can effectively collaborate and deliver their products faster, better and cheaper.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Few topics of interest that TM students can pursue in their PDD & PLM projects:
- Customer-centric NPD
- Advanced Product Quality Planning and Design for Six Sigma
- (More related info: http://www.npd-solutions.com/apqp.html)
- Pursue the SME sector supporting the automotive industry with the help of DS India (or through your placement office). CAD investments in their engineering departments need the support of PLM solutions. You, as Techno-Managers, can lend meaningful support to the engineers in product development teams for deploying the voice of the customer. Your PDD course focus on the conceptual design process prepares you to use structured methods. Use them and be ready to take on the challenges in the conceptual age. Your efforts will be to make the right brain complement the left brain. [Note: The information age now provides the platform for the conceptual age to rise.
